WARNING ABOUT DANGEROUS JELLY SWEETS.

Children should not eat slow to dissolve JELLYACE jelly sweets because they are a potential choking hazard.

Although this type of sweet was banned in Europe last year following the deaths from choking of about 18 children worldwide, the Food Standards Agency has renewed its warning after some of the sweets have been recently found on sale in the UK.

The products to look out for and avoid, are JELLYACE LYCHEE FLAVOR KONJAC and JELLYACE BUKO PANDAN, both of which are sold in mini plastic cups with a peel- off foil lid, and contain the additive KONJAC, which stops the jelly from dissolving easily. They are sold in 192g packs, each containing 12 sweets. Some packets of JELLYACE BUKO PANDAN contain locust bean gum as a gelling agent, instead of KONJAC. These sweets are legal. Consumers should check the label on the product. The JELLYACE products are manufactured in the Philippines and sold under the brand name of SUGARLAND.

For more information about the JELLYACE sweets and this warning, please contact NNDC'S Commercial Team on 01263 516168, or Colin Houston of the Food Standards Agency on 0207 276 8448. The Food Standards Agency website is www.food.gov.uk
