Register your interest for Broadband Internet in Sheringham

Thank you to everyone who registered their interest last week. We still need plenty more people and businesses in the area to do so. You can do this by registering via Norfolk based service provider Paston Chase http://www.paston.co.uk. or http://www.at-sheringham-norfolk.co.uk If you prefer you can phone Paston Chase on 01603 502061 who will do it for you. So far we have 114 and the target is 500. So please talk to your friends, neighbours and not forgetting your workplace as well. Please remember that these are only expressions of interest, it does not commit you in anyway to taking the service. So by registering you will be helping others.

Anyone within a 5km radius of Sheringham should be able to benefit from this much-improved Internet Service, so it is not just the immediate areas of Sheringham itself. Next week we hope to have some posters that can be put up in shops, garages and businesses. If you would like to promote this cause with a poster then please let us know by emailing or phoning us at the office mail@at-sheringham-norfolk.co.uk. In case you missed last week's article here are some of the key benefits of a broadband Internet connection. Its much faster, even the slowest version of Broadband is up to 10 times faster than a normal connection and there is a version that can go up to 40 times faster. Imagine that! You don't pay based on your Internet usage, it is a set fee starting from £25 to £30 a month and there are no limits on the amount of time you can be online. And for anyone who is in business or has children that use the Internet, the new service works on your existing BT phone line, but leaves you free to make and receive calls on that line whilst the broadband Internet connection is being used. So no need for a second phone line or missing a phone call whist being online to the Internet. The good news is that getting enough registrations of interest is all we need to make it happen. Just this week Reepham in Norfolk reached its target level of interest and will be getting broadband enabled at their exchange in October this year. So please register your interest today, you have nothing to lose and the sooner you do it the sooner this broadband service will be available in Sheringham.

ASK THE TEENAGERS

The schools have broken up and the holidays are upon us. How many of the kids from Sheringham High School will be taking a holiday and how many will be working as hard as they can in order to get some cash. The results could be alarming to people living in land or in cities, but to others it's just a fact of life when you live in a tourist driven town. Cheap, temporary labour that's ready to muck in and do any menial task means teen employment is an attractive offer to most summer traders. 80% of the pupils up at the high school said they already had a job for the summer or hope to find one. Given the option 56% would work as many hours as they could get whether it was daytime hours, evenings or shift work, 76% expected to be working in a shop, cafÈ or restaurant or caravan site earning over £50 a week. One 13 year old will be working voluntarily on a top north Norfolk attraction and a couple of others expect to increase their paper rounds over the summer. Once the kids have these jobs 84% expect to keep them going during term time as a weekend or evening job. On the great Tesco debate we thought an unbiased approach would be to ask the high school children where their parent did their main family shop. 60% go to Cromer and use Safeways, 16% go to Norwich Asda, 12% go to North Walsham Lidl, 8% already use Tesco via the internet, 4% use Iceland via the internet. The options of Budgens and Co-op were on the questionnaire but not one child chose it! Food for thought indeed.
And will these hardworking children also be expecting a holiday this summer? 36% will be going abroad and 32% will be holidaying in a fair a pleasant land.

Which Way?
Once a boy was walking down the road, and came to a place where the road divided in two, each separate road forking off in a different direction. A girl was standing at the fork in the road. The boy knew that one road led to Lieville, a town where everyone always lied, and the other led to Trueville, a town where everyone always told the truth. He also knew that the girl came from one of those towns, but he didn't know which one. Can you think of a question the boy could ask the girl to find out the way to Trueville?

SEAVIEW CARAVAN PARK PROMOTES THE COASTGUARD'S BEACH SAFETY INITIATIVE WITH FREE WEEKLY PRIZE DRAW
Seaview Caravan Park at East Runton joined the 'Sea Smart' beach safety scheme earlier this year. The scheme has been devised by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) to promote public awareness of potential dangers they could face at the beach. They have formulated 'The Sea Smart Code' to help get their message over to parents and children so they enjoy a safe and happy visit to the beach. THE SEA SMART CODE. If you see anyone in trouble, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Check the weather and tides before you leave. Keep children within reach at all times. Always tie inflatables to the shore. Keep clear of cliff edges ñ they can be slippery when wet. Don't drink and drown, eating and drinking before swimming may give you cramps. Free leaflets, car stickers, post cards pens, pencils and badges are available from Seaview's Ice cream kiosk at their park entrance on Beach Road, East Runton. Wrist bands are also available there during the summer for children to wear bearing their parents contact details should they become separated from them. The MCA have donated six tote bags which Mike & Linda Ashwell are going to fill with beach goodies and give away each week, during the main holiday period, in a free prize draw. They have been actively promoting The Sea Smart scheme to their customers. Mike says "We have had a tremendous response to the scheme. As we are right beside a popular beach we have been doing all we can to make people aware of the potential perils of the sea without spoiling their enjoyment of our wonderful coast. We find that most people are aware of the dangers but appreciate the reminders that 'Sea Smart' give them as it is done in such a fun way and of course the kids love the free badges, pencils and possibility to win a great prize. We are looking forward to our prize draw and hope to have a local personality draw the winning ticket each week. CAN YOU HELP! We are having six prize draws. We need five local personalities to draw the winning tickets can your organisation provide a 'willing volunteer' to help us? If you can help please call Mike on 01263 514569.
