LETTER |
Having just read issue 16 (june 13) of
@sheringham.co.uk, I must answer a query raised on page 14. You asked 'if cats and dogs
didn't have fur would we still stroke them?' Well I can answer with a categoric YES! My
mother is the owner of a bald
yorkshire terrier and he receives many strokes (and cuddles) from friends and strangers
alike. The cause of his baldness is a hormone deficiency and apart from needing a coat in
the cold weather and sunscreen in the summer he does not suffer in any way from his
baldness. He is, I think, around eight years old and has been bald since he lost his puppy
coat. He does however have fur on his legs and head, these being the areas covered by tan
coloured fur on yorkies, it is only the black/grey/silver fur on his back that is affected
by the deficient hormones. Personally, I don't like to stroke him in the warm weather as
he has a 'clammy' feel to his bald area, but he is very difficult to say no to! Hope you
don't mind my responding to your question, but i have yet to meet another dog with a
similar 'problem'. yours, Sue Richardson, Co Durham |
| Digbys
Doing It ! |
| Digby Eddison of Holt, is one of 200 cyclists
who will be cycling from London to Paris in a 440km charity bike ride. Digby will
set out from London on 4th September to raise funds for The Royal British Legion and will
finish at the Arc de Triomphe four days later on 7th September. "It's not until
I started training for this ride that I realised how fit I would have to be to stand a
hope of completing the course, I've never done anything like this before", Digby said
earlier this week. Digby, in his lates 20's, 30's .....who is actually 40 and owns
The Lawns Hotel in Holt, is already busy training and is asking local shops and businesses
to help him raise £1500 for The Royal British Legion. "Most of my friends
think I'm slightly mad and others know I am mad, yet most are really supportive, and some
have even aasked if they can participate," Digby said. |
 |
|
Digby was chuffed when his application to take part in the
ride was accepted by the Legion, adding "The Legion does such a good job in helping
all age groups of the ex-Service community, and having spent a number of years in The
Royal Marines I feel that by doing this I'm repaying my debt to veterans and their
dependants."

Last year Digby raised nearly £400 for the
RNLI by circumnavigating Ireland in a 7 metre Rigid Inflatable Boat. For further

| Dear Sir/Madam. Hi we are part of a family
that emigrated to Australia from the U.K in the mid 1960s. Now our father is about to turn
80, and as he spent his early years in Sheringham (1900) we were hoping to put together a
form of record book with places and things of interest, or items from our fathers past in
it. He was born in 1924 in Sheringham. If you were able to assist, or point us in the
right direction we would be most pleased. Barry Keith Holmes. Answers to the paper please
