FUND GIVES CHILDREN FUN AT BREAK'S FAMILY ASSESSMENT UNIT |
BREAK charity's Family Assessment Unit has been the
fortunate recipient of a donation of £500 from The Foresters' Fund for Children. The
money will be used to provide some much-needed new equipment and toys for the playroom at
our Family Assessment Centre, in Sheringham, which provides help for families in crisis.
Mr Don Ridgley, Regional Councillor of The Foresters' Fund for Children presenting cheque
for £500 to Mr Chris Hoddy, BREAK's Operations Manager (Children and Families) on 18 July
2003 at BREAK Head Office, Davison House, Sheringham. Magpie, BREAK's Family Assessment
Unit, provides families who are under threat of breakdown, an opportunity to improve their
parenting skills, as individuals and a family unit. A team of highly qualified and
dedicated staff work on providing a comprehensive assessment of a parents' ability to
provide basic care, safety, guidance, boundaries and stability for their children, helping
to ensure children's' safety. |

Chris Hoddy, Operations Manager (Children and Families)
said; "The work we do at 'Magpie' is imperative in helping to make the right decision
for families. We strive to make 'Magpie' a home from home, an |
| environment where families feel relaxed and at ease, and
play equipment and toys for the children help enormously. When people are relaxed they
increase their ability to learn and develop their skills, in this case, as parents.
"Although the funding comes for this centre comes from Norfolk Social Services, it is
not always possible to purchase the 'little extras' that can make a dramatic difference.
This equipment, including specialist soft play nursery flooring, play nets and gyms,
jungle play mats and other toys, will all be much appreciated by the younger children and
their families at the centre." Bernard Bloom, Chairman & Chief Executive of the
Foresters' Fund for Children said; "This charity has a proud history of helping
children. Founded in 1975 in North America, it commenced operations in the UK in 1986
where it limited the help it provided to the prevention of child abuse. Since then we have
widened our objectives - helping all children and young people in the UK. We make grants
to help any organisation or group who have a project which helps to maintain or improve
the quality of life - and well being - of young people." 'Magpie' is one such cause
who has benefited from their support. If you would like to know more about BREAK and the
range of specialist care services they provide, including holidays and respite care for
people with special needs, please call 01263 822161 |

RETRACTION - WE GOT IT WRONG |
In issue 18 we wrongly reported that the large teddy bear won from Celebrations was
donated to the Noah's Ark Toddler Group. This was the wrong name, the name of the group at
the Baptist Church is, we believe Jigsaw. The Noah's Ark Toddler Group is held every
Wednesday at St Peter's Church from 10:00am until 12 noon. This is a Mother and Toddler
Group, open to all at a cost of £1 per family. It is currently closed for the summer but
restarts on 10th September. Our apologies if we caused any confusion. Big Ted is very
happy at Jigsaw, the children love him.

EXHIBITION OF
MINIATURES |
The Minni House Club of North Norfolk staged the exhibition which was in the Cromer Parish
Hall and included a huge variety of miniatures, doll houses, gardens, shops, room-boxes,
market barrows and much more. In excess of £450 was raised for the Air Ambulance. The
exhibition was wonderful. For anyone interested, the club meets on the 2nd Thursday of
each month at 2pm in Cromer Methodist Church Hall, next meeting 11 September.
