READERS LETTER
Hi, my name is Jill Bowers. I read your article in the Sheringham free paper about young Nicholas McHale, an ex-Sheringham lad, who has recently returned from the Gulf. Well you have a current Sheringham lad who has returned, my son Andrew returned from the Gulf to his barracks in Germany on the 29th June after spending 6 months out there. He is in the Royal Engineers and has served 5 years; he is now 22 yrs. He has travelled to all the hot spots in the world, including Kosovo. I would like to thank Stead and Simpsons, who on hearing that my son was in the Gulf saved me their shoeboxes, so that I could send him parcels out and my neighbours who wrote to him on a regular basis. Andrew has lived in Norfolk most of his life, he was born in Germany of Army parents. He went to Mundesley Primary and Junior school, before going to North Walsham High. He made up his mind to join the Forces at a very early age. Having passed every Trade exam he can in the Army, he is now looking forward to promotion. Being a Royal Engineer he is involved with tank driving and bridge laying, plus mine clearance, this has not bothered him, he is just proud to do the job he has trained for and always wanted. After the horrific sights he has witnessed out in the Iraq he is now looking forward to a well-earned R & R. and we, his family are looking forward to having him home. His 11 year old brother Daniel is so proud of him, and is waiting to put the bunting up along with the flags we already have flying. May I also add, good luck to the troops who are still going out to Iraq, to relieve the lads out there. News in the papers have forgotten them, we as serving soldiers parents haven't. WELL DONE LADS.
