Dear Editor
I have just read Vic's Column in Issue 20, where he mentioned the late night swimmers on
Wednesday night recently and the amount of ale that had been supped prior to the swim.
You may not be aware that a local lifeguard saw the fifteen or so swimmers in the sea and
was so concerned for their safety he phoned Yarmouth Coastguard who in turn paged
Sheringham Coastguard and launched Sheringham Lifeboat.
As I and many of the Coastguard were fast asleep in bed at around midnight, we had to turn
out and get to the seafront only to find that when the Lifeboat maroons were fired, the
swimmers all got out sharpish.
The Lifeboat did a search to the East of the town and back, we searched with local Police,
the beaches around the Tank area and then were all stood down.
My point is this. For the sake of a quick dip, a great number of Coastguards and Lifeboat
men were inconvenienced, most of us did not get back to bed until the small hours, the
Lifeboat Crew had an Inspectors Visit the next day and were still cleaning their boat at
2:30am! All for the sake of five minutes of ENJOYMENT. Please remember alcohol and the sea
don't mix.

To Whom it May Concern
An ornamental flower display in the form of a Child's Tricycle in black, enrobed in
plastic with a large potted plant where the seat would normally be was removed from 22
Morley Road, between approximately 12:00 midnight and 01:00 Saturday Morning.
Will the person or persons who removed it kindly return it as it is of sentimental value. |
