CRICKET REPORT
Sheringham entertained top of the table Garboldisham in their Alliance Division 3 match, and were well beaten in a high scoring match. The visitors on winning the toss elected to bat first and made a promising start with a 44 opening partnership in the first 10 overs before Andy McKean (2-54) struck to remove Swords (7). This brought Melvin (50) and Worby (100) together who began to hit the home sides bowling to all parts of the ground taking the score to 141 in only 25 overs and a massive score seemed on the cards. However Sheringhams Phil Moy (4-69) and Stuart Smith (3-39) removed Garboldishams middle order to get the home side back into the game. A late flurry from Wright (16 no) saw the visitors close their innings on 256 for 9.

Sheringhams innings suffered an early setback when skipper Kris Howell (9) fell early on to Dyer (1-36). Ryan Carter (60) and Shaun Walton (24) staged a gallant fightback scoring at a run rate of six an over in a partnership of 45 before Walton fell to Holland (2-39). Jez Wright (30) joined Carter in a partnership of 61 and with more than half the overs remaining, the home side were looking good at 127 for 2. However when Carter fell to W. Wright (3-31), this led to a middle order collapse with C.Wright (2-38) joining in the wicket taking. Sheringham were finally all out in the 38th over for 185. With three games remaining, the Shannocks will need to improve if they are to avoid getting dragged into one of the relegation places.

CARNIVAL THANKS
Dear Editor,
May I, through your columns, say thank you to the residents of Sheringham and district for their terrific support for the recent Carnival Week? We are aware that it is not all plain sailing for everyone, but, generally, the support on the streets and from our wonderful sponsors and advertisers has been exceptional. We should also acknowledge the help given to us by our splendid emergency services, by St. John Ambulance, and by our Town, District, and County Councils (Incidentally, the provision of extra toilets, rubbish collections, and bottle banks was the result of discussions following last year's Carnival Week involving various agencies.) We try to be aware of the additional pressures on Sheringham during Carnival Week- extra people and vehicles particularly and the strain this puts on our Traffic Warden, Lifeguards, Foreshore Inspector, our local press and others. More and more organisations are involved in this splendid Festival, it would be impossible to name all of them, but I should single out the increasing help from the Churches. All of the groups and individuals above, and the army of helpers during the week, should give themselves a pat on the back for contributing to a happy and successful week- and particularly those whose pure and blameless past enabled us all to enjoy wall-to-wall sunshine!

But we haven't finished yet: still to come from your Carnival Association.

September 26/27/28th- Sheringham Folk Festival.
October 17/18/19th- Sheringham Star Wars Festival.
Please look out for posters. Finally, a personal and public thank you to the organising committee, whose individual dedication, energy, and imaginations are impossible to exaggerate.
Thanks folks. Yours cheerfully, Tony Nelson.
Chairman - Sheringham Carnival Association.
