CRICKET REPORT
Sheringham travelled to Bradenham in this last Alliance Conference Division 3 league match of the season. Captain Colin Bush fielded a side of two 16yr olds, six 13yr olds and one 11yr old. Openers Colin Bush and Wes Neave struggled with the variable bounce and the huge swinging deliveries of the Bradenham opening pace attack. Neave (2) was the first to go and Richard Charlwood replaced him. Runs were hard to come by off the bat, although wides were helping the run rate. Bush (11) was bowled by a booming late swinging delivery. S. Hudson (snr) along with Charlwood struggled to get bat on ball and despite some excellent defence, Charlwood was next out for 3. Pinks made little impression and was well caught at slip for 5. A spirited knock by D.King (8) ended when he was bowled. D. Gilbertt in partnership with . Hudson began to get to grips with the bowling and some lusty blows upped the run tempo. Hudson (14) decided that he would go for it and immediately holed out at deep square leg leaving Gilbertt to marshall the tail enders. Moy (3) showed some good technique in defence, Sturgess (3) was unlucky to play around a straight ball and junior Hudson (6) showed his potential before he was caught. Last man, 11yr old Ben Flanaghan played straight and remained undefeated. Gilbertt (15) eventually holed out to end the Sheringham innings on 112 off 42 overs. Bradenham, in better batting conditions, were made to work to pass Sheringhams total as the youngsters fielded and bowled with enthusiasm and good skill. Excellent bowling by opener Daniel Gilbertt and first change S. Hudson produced no wickets but both were extremely unlucky not to find the edge of all the Bradenham batsmen whom they beat with monotonous regularity. Opening bowler Charlwood struggled to find his line as the ball swung alarmingly and it was not until his third over that he had Wellness caught brilliantly down the legside by wicket keeper Pinks. Flanaghan bowled the penultimate over and had Strong breathtakingly caught low down by 49yr old Steve Hudson to return figures for his first senior outing of 1-1-0-1. Bradenhams captain hit the winning runs with a 4 off Sturgess in the 32nd over to record the win for the loss of 3 wickets. Sheringham can take heart in the knowledge that the youngsters will become a force to reckon with in the very near future on the showing of this performance.

Sheringham travelled to Dereham in their Alliance Division 3 match, and gained a 90% losing draw picking up 11 points. Sheringham's skipper Kris Howell won the toss and elected to bowl first on what appeared to be a bowlers paradise. Graham Bradfield (1-18) picked up an early wicket and after 15 overs Dereham had struggled to 31 for 2. P. Baynard (21) and P. Robinson (43) put a third wicket partnership of 38 together and it seemed as if the home side may set a challenging total. However Andy McKean (4-29) and Andy King (2-26) both bowled an excellent line and after their 46 overs Dereham had reached 141 for 9 with K. Denmark (17) and J. Heaney (13 no) adding useful runs down the order. Sheringhams opening pair of Howell (21) and Shaun Walton (10) laid a good foundation with an opening partnership of 29 before the latter fell to the pace of Robinson (4-22). Wickets then fell at a steady rate with Jez Wright (14), King (13), Bradfield (18) and Jon Neale (12) all getting out just when they seemed set for a substantial innings. With Heaney (3-39) supporting Robinson, Sheringham found themselves facing defeat at 116 for 9. However McKean (9 no) and Phil Moy (3 no) batted determinedly for the final 7 overs to take Sheringhams total to 130 and so ensure a 90% losing draw. Going into their final league game, Sheringham still have work to do to avoid relegation.
