| Princess Anne
visits new state of the art Sheringham Woodfields School |
 |
Her Royal Highness the
Princess Royal officially opened Sheringham Woodfields School today. After arriving by
helicopter, the Princess unveiled a plaque, cut a ribbon and received a welcome speech
from Andrew Clarke, a student in Woodfields Sixth Form unit, and was presented with a posy
by Lisa and Jade Robinson. The Princess was then shown round the school by the head
teacher Mrs Diane Whitham and saw the pupils and staff at work in the innovative purpose
built building, which is a flagship project attracting interest from near and far.

After a tour of the new school,
and meeting some of the people who have worked on the project, Princess Anne took lunch
and then departed again in the helicopter. Sheringham Woodfields School caters for pupils
with severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties and has a wide range of new
and exciting facilities: a hydrotherapy pool with a multi programmable system of lighting,
sound and special effects, fully equipped art,
food technology and science rooms with rise and fall sinks and tables, hobs etc. enabling
those pupils in wheelchairs to have full access to them as well as a sensory theatre, a
playground with specially designed equipment to allow pupils in wheelchairs to have fun
and plenty of portable hoists so that nowhere in the school is inaccessible to those
pupils who use wheelchairs. Everything in Woodfields is geared to providing its pupils
with the very best opportunities for learning in an exciting and conducive atmosphere. It
also allows for inclusive education with mainstream education, sharing a campus with the
Sheringham Primary and Secondary Schools as well as sharing a joint nursery unit. |
