GORT, OVERCOMING FEAR |
| in pain and depressed following a second
miscarriage-Lesley Gort picked up a book that had sat on her bookshelf for years. This
book, which her husband had acquired as a youth, put her on the path to spiritual healing.
She attributes her ability to have a family to the spiritual help she received from
practicing the ideas she found in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary
Baker Eddy. Today, her three sons are active adults: a history teacher, a computer
software consultant, and a candidate for a doctorate in music. A native of Manchester,
England, she obtained her degree in French from Liverpool University, spending her final
year in Paris. The following year, she studied for her Teacher's Certificate at the
University of London. She taut French for five years before becoming a full-time Christian
Science practitioner. |
| At age 27-ill The decision to switch to a career as a
healer grew out of her overwhelming gratitude to the divine presence for all the good in
her life-both as a mother at home and as a teacher in the classroom. Her teaching
colleagues would ask how she could do her job and always be so happy. She replied that the
practice of spiritual healing gave her strength, resilience, energy, and an expectation of
good happening now! |
 |
She now travels much of the year as a public speaker to
share what she calls ''spiritual solutions with practical results'' and to help others
meet their needs through spiritual means. Though leisure is a scarce commodity, she and
her family holiday at a little country cottage in the North Yorkshire moors where she
enjoys some light reading, occasionally writing articles for magazines on spirituality,
and taking country walks. Regardless of what she does, the thread woven through the fabric
of her life remains her gratitude for finding a spiritual perspective that brings hope and
joy into her experience. Lesley travels from her home near Manchester, England.

| SHERINGHAM'S
FOLK FESTIVAL |

Sheringham's first ever Folk Festival was an unqualified success from the moment that
former Spinner Hughie Jones launched into his opening song Whip Jamboree outside the Crown
on Saturday lunchtime until he closed the show at the Lobster on Saturday night.
People flocked to listen to him and the local artists performing. That was followed on
Sunday by a brilliant performance by the Ugly dogs Skiffle Band. Others performing
superbly over the two days were Glinn West, Emma Williamson, Roger Dale, Patrick Macauley,
The Cromer Smugglers, The Keel Band, The Castaways, Lee Westell and Liam Dolan.
The next Folk Festival will be 11 & 12 September 2004. |
