| THE THEATRE
DOES IT AGAIN |
Sandcastles by Bob Larby was presented by
The Sheringham Players in October. It is a wonderful play which centres on three beach
huts. The outer two have been used by the same two couples for years. The middle one is
unexpectedly let out two Doug with his two nubile nieces. Add to this mix envious beach
goers and the acerbic 'mother' and you end up with scenes that produced good old fashioned
belly laughs from the audience. |
 |
I am not a thespian, I just know what I like and I have to
say that this latest production was terrific. If you are not a theatre goer, maybe you
should consider trying it out. It is a grate night out, better than 'the box' any day.
During the course of the show a raffle was held in aid of Macmillan Nurses and £202 was
raised.
Thanks go to Brian Lewis who donated a limited edition print which was won by Beryl Booth
of Swannington in Leicestershire who has a holiday cottage here. |

THAT'S WHAT YOU CALL RECYCLING! |
| The Picturecraft Gallery exhibits the 1805
collection. The Picturecraft Gallery at Lees Yard in Holt hosted a press evening on 21st
October - the anniversary of The Battle of Trafalgar. On view the unique 1805 collection
of over 80 artefacts produced using the 34 tonnes of oak and 10 tonnes of copper, which
has accumulated over the 80-year restoration of the HMS Victory. The collection has
something for everyone's taste and pocket including silverware, furniture, jewellery and
small items such as coasters and fruit bowls. |
 |
Over 50 artists and craftsmen including Simpson's of
Norfolk who have produced a wonderful traditional oak joint stool and the highly regarded
Stuart Linford who's Admirals chair is a stunning piece of craftsmanship are involved in
creating this collection. Jonathon Bowman is the businessman behind Victory Ltd., the
Norfolk based company who acquired the contract to purchase all the oak and copper from
The Victory. |
Jonathon told me that it seemed appropriate to start what
is likely to be a two year nation-wide tour of the country in Holt as it is so close to
Nelsons birthplace in Burnham Thorpe. The tour will culminate in the bi-centenary of the
battle of Trafalgar in 2005. Both Jonathon and gallery owner Adrian Hill told me that the
exhibition has been a great success.
