Friends of BREAK
provide helping hands to local Rainbow holiday centre |
 |
The RAF Friends of Coltishall, 6 Squadron have supported
BREAK's Rainbow holiday centre for over three years. They provide an essential 'pairs of
hands' to get many of the larger tasks done at the centre. On Friday 21 November they came
to the centre to repaint the inside of the swimming pool at Rainbow and helped with garden
maintenance. The Rainbow heated pool, opened in 1988, is an invaluable resource for
BREAK's guests. The pool provides a form of stimulation, fun and relaxation to children
and adults with disabilities, whilst adding another touch which ensures the guests have a
real holiday to enjoy, whatever the time of year. In 2002, The RAF Friends of
Coltishall dug trenches and helped to level the ground of the Rainbow garden, making it
accessible for wheelchair bound guests so that everyone visiting the centre can enjoy
summer afternoons in the garden. Over the past year or so they have also been working on
the area of land adjoining Franklin Hill, behind the centre, to turn what was a wilderness
into a garden. Plans are afoot for further landscaping work to be done on this area. |

This will provide another garden area for guests to enjoy.
Without their help the locally based charity would have to hire in contractors to do these
jobs. Sarah Bunn, Publicity Coordinator said; 'We are very grateful to the RAF Friends of
Coltishall 6 Squadron. They have been an immense source of help for us, help which allows
more funds to go towards the holidays and respite care programme. They are so supportive
of our work and happy to be helping out, enjoying a day with us here in Sheringham. They
have razed funds for us from events that have taken part in over the past three years and
I believe they may use this money to transform the garden at the back of the centre. And
although helping to fund projects like that are fantastic, providing these 'helping hands
is just as important to us.' Rainbow, BREAK's holiday centre in Sheringham, provides year
round holidays for up to 14 children and adults with special needs, including physical and
learning disabilities each week. While guests enjoy a seaside holiday with activities and
visits to local attractions, their families and carers take a well deserved rest. For many
people BREAK is a 'lifeline' helping to relieve the strain of constant caring and keep
families together. If you would like to know more about how you can support BREAK,
from providing just a small regular donation to volunteering, please contact the
