INNER CITY CHILDREN TO GET
'BREAK' IN NORFOLK |
Children living in London with special needs will be able
to benefit from taking a 'break' by the Norfolk seaside, thanks to a grant from the
Capital Radio's charity - Help a London Child which provides help for the Capital's
disadvantaged children and young people. The grant of £1,200 has been awarded to Norfolk
based BREAK towards the cost of a week's holiday for disabled children in London over the
coming months to BREAK centres in Sheringham and Hunstanton. The grant was just one of 524
grants awarded to groups and organisations which provide support services, activities and
equipment to benefit over 100,000 young people living in London. Capital FM and Capital
Gold radio stations raised over £1m for their charity since the launch of the appeal back
in March 2003 which started with a whole weekend of programming dedicated to raising
money. There was also a range of other fundraising events during the year with popstars
and TV celebrities turning out to support the events, including Liberty X, Westlife,
Misteeq, Ronan Keating, Will Young, Frank Skinner and Phil Tufnell.
BREAK is one organisation not based in the capital city that has received funding from
'Help a London Child', giving children from London a seaside holiday and their families
and carers a break from the strains of full time caring. While on holiday at BREAK the
children will visit local attractions and take part in activities at the centres in
Sheringham and Hunstanton, including swimming in the indoor pool or relaxing in the
specially equipped sensory rooms. Sarah Saunders, Senior Fundraising Officer for BREAK
said; "We are very pleased to have been awarded this funding to help more people from
across the country it makes such a difference to the people we help and support. Although
we provide holidays for people from all over the country it is great to have money to help
specific groups who you know will benefit greatly from our help. Not only will we be able
to give these children a holiday, but we can show them this beautiful part of the country,
an area so very different from the area in which they live." |
