Magic Minties
25g (1oz) butter or margarine
150g (5oz) plain or milk chocolate, broken into pieces.
2 tablespoons water.
125g (4oz) digestive biscuits, crushed.
Half teaspoon peppermint essence.
Place the butter or margarine, chocolate and water in pan and heat gently until melted.
Stir in the biscuit crumbs and peppermint essence and mix thoroughly. Allow to cool.
Turn onto a strip of foil. Shape into a roll about 3.5cm (11/2 inches) in diameter,
wrapping the roll in the foil, and then form into a cylindrical shape. Cut into 5mm
(1/4-inch) slices.
Chocolate Fudge
125g (4oz) butter or margarine
4 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
2 tablespoons golden syrup
625g (1 1/4lb) caster sugar
175ml (6-fl oz) condensed milk
Place the butter or margarine, water, cocoa and syrup in a large heavy-based pan and heat
gently until melted. Add the sugar and heat very gently until dissolved; this may take 30
minutes, but it must be done gently, without boiling. Add the condensed milk and bring to
the boil, stirring. Boil for 5 to 10 minutes, until the bubbles look like 'erupting
volcanoes' and a spoonful forms a soft ball when dropped into a glass of cold water.
Cool until the bubbling stops, then beat well for about 5 minutes, until the mixture
begins to thicken; this will give a smooth texture. Turn into a greased 18 x 28-cm (7 x 11
inch) Swiss roll tin and leave for about 30 minutes, until half set. Mark into 2.5cm
(1-inch) squares with a sharp knife and leave until cold. Cut into squares, remove from
the tin and store in a jar. Makes about 750g (1.1/2 lb). |

Review of North Norfolk's Parishes
A comprehensive review of North Norfolk's 121 parishes is to begin next month. The review,
which will be conducted by North Norfolk District Council, will focus on parish boundaries
and parish council electoral arrangements, with the aim of ensuring that parish areas
continue to reflect natural community ties and identities. 'Parish reviews take place
every 15 years or so, and the last one on North Norfolk was completed in 1985', said
Martin Austin, NNDC's Head of Democratic and PR Services. 'It is important to make sure
that parishes still match the needs and interests of their communities and that people are
effectively represented.' Full consultation will be a vital part of the review process,
and local residents and organisations are now invited to submit proposals for the creation
of new parishes, alterations to parish boundaries and/or parish councils, and the
abolition of parishes. One suggestion has already been made for a new parish to be
created, and another is for the boundary between two parishes to be adjusted. Proposals
should be sent to the NNDC by Monday 31 May 2004. The Council will consider all ideas and
submissions, and then prepare draft recommendations for further consultation in the
autumn. Final plans will be submitted to the Secretary of State/Electoral Commission, with
any changes likely to come into effect before the next local elections in May 2007.

Dear Editor, Melanie @ Sheringham
Sheringham Corps of The Salvation Army would like to say a BIG thank you to all those who
supported the 50/50 Auction last Saturday. Firstly your paper, for generus publicity, the
townsfolk who supplied the 295 lots for auction - many of which were donated 100% and of
course the enthusiastic crowd who came along to bid for the goods on the day. The day was
of course helped along no end by the endless cups of tea and bacon butties from Pam's
Girls!
It was hard but very rewarding work for the team, well over £1,200 was raised for our
work with Young People locally.
Thank you and God bless.
Graham/Jumbo Curlew and the team of helpers. |
| The
readers letter in issue 28 from Peter Baskerville, which referred to Brian Farrow
throughout, was in fact in response to the readers letter from ROBIN FARROW in issue 27.
Personal apologies to Brian for this mistake. |
