| BROADBAND
UPDATE |
| 11th of February 2003 is the day when broadband is
available. If you want the Broadband Service on or around that launch day, I suggest you
choose your supplier by mid January at the latest to give them time to process the order.
AOL and Freeserve, did well in the recent OFTEL report on Internet Service
providers. If your with them and are a home user then as long as your happy with their
service, it probably makes sense to stay with them, as you will be able to keep your
current AOL or Freeserve email addresses. BT have some attractive offers like free
service connection and a free broadband modem, but came in for significant criticism in
the very recent OFTEL report on service providers. If you are using BT's ISDN, Home
Highway or Business Highway services, and plan to convert these to the broadband service,
you should consider using BT, as they will waive the conversion charge (usually at least
£42.50) most other providers won't. However, if your not happy with your
current supplier or need some onsite help with the move to broadband, there is a local
option available via Paston Chase who are a broadband service provider with extensive
experience of moving customers across to broadband. They also have a support desk that is
staffed by real people rather than recorded messages and its on a local Norwich number Tel
01603 502061. Please note that once you are on broadband with a service provider, it
is a far more complex process to change provider than it has been in the past with
traditional technologies. Therefore if you want to change supplier, do this at the point
you move to broadband. Remember that to get broadband on a single PC will need to be on at
least Windows 98 or above (but not Windows NT) and have a free USB port. Most computers
less than fives years old are likely to have USB ports as standard. One other point
to be aware of is that you can only use the new broadband service on the specific phone
line that has been converted. Therefore if you have a laptop and need Internet access from
different locations you may still need a traditional Internet account and modem too. Some
broadband suppliers will provide you with both options within their price, although its
likely that the tradition account will be on an 0845 phone number which will incur local
phone rate charges. If all sounds too much just call Paston Chase on 01603 502061 they
will be pleased to offer their assistance. Neighbouring towns and villages are at
the moment trying to hit their targets. If you want to use the link Sheringham used to
register an interest we will be more than happy to process them for you. It is www.at-sheringham.co.uk and
click on Sheringham Broadband. It will count towards your targets. |

LETTER |
| The Holway Road in the picture doesn't seem to have
today's problem with traffic, I can't even see any traffic. That picture is 1925, are you
sure you can remember it? |
 |
Since I last saw you I have aquired this other picture of
Holway Road taken from the bottom looking south up the hill. 5 years earlier than the
other one........1920. There seem to be more people walking in the road than on the
pavments, and the traffic coming down the hill seems to be on the wrong side of the
road........nothing changes!

I've been bathed and dried like a baby.
Welcomed and kissed like a friend.
Taken with others out shopping
Where will all surprises end?
On birthdays we are feted and sang to
Prezzies and cards from around
Where can you find this safe haven?
At Sheringham's '' AGE CONCERN'' is found.
