THE SCOTTER FAMILY
After an appeal for photographs in our last issue, Mrs Scotter very kindly brought in some of her late husband Arthur and her son. We decided to do a little research on the Scotter family and sad to say, for such a prominent Sherinham family, the Scotters very rarely get a mention. We would like to redress the balance here and are appealing to anyone with information or photographs of the Scotters, to please get in touch.

Do you know any of the faces in the above photograph?  A few little pieces of information we have been able to gather are that James Scotter was born in Sheringham in 1896 he was the son of Matthew and Ann Scotter. We was almost certainly in the Royal Navy. He was also a member of the Sheringham Lifeboat Crew. and in the time old tradition was given the nickname Jimmy Jimma. He died in 1962. The Windsor Rose which was last owned by the Scotter family is a locally built fishing boat which now resides in the Sheringham Museum.  The most dramatic post-war rescue by the Foresters' Centenary Lifeboat was to save the crew of the S.S. Wimbledon on the 31st October 1956. The Foresters' Centenary was launched into a very rough sea the RNLI's Thanks on Vellum were awarded to Acting Bowman Arthur H. Scotter among others for the rescue of eighteen men.  Arthurs Certificate of Service from the R.N.L.I. reads:
"This is to certify that Arthur H. Scotter was Second Coxwain of the Sheringham Life-boat for 19 and a half years, Bowman for four and threequarter years and previously a member of the crew for eighteen years, during which periods the Life-boat rescued 136 lives from shipwreck. The Committee Management are glad to place on record this testimony to his personal participation in the Life-boat Service."   Now, by my reckoning, that's a lot of years service, there must be some stories to be told and who is the gorgeous guy in the above photo?

Sheringham Carpets opened in March 1993. It is run by husband and wife team Sharon & Nigel Secker and was opened to provide good quality products with good service. Originally it just dealt in carpets & vinyl floor coverings but has since expanded into soft furnishings.

Our carpet department deals with all the major British manufacturers including Brintons Carpets, Axminster Carpets, Victoria Carpets and many more. We also offer a range of Natural floor coverings from The Alternative Flooring Company and Crucial Trading. We also sell Karndean Tile flooring. A full measuring and installation service is available on all our products. We all have a good knowledge of our products and are therefore able to advise our customers on what products will best suit their requirements and lifestyle. Our soft furnishing department has a large selection of curtain fabrics to choose from, again from leading names such as Crowsons, Blendworth, Harlequin and many more. It helps the customers having both curtains and carpet samples under one roof, to co-ordinate their look. We offer a full making service but alternatively can just supply the fabrics.
