Gang Show |
Peter Steward wrote in a local newspaper the following
editorial on Sheringham's first Scout Gang Show:
"IF I WERE NOT a CUB SCOUT was an appropriate title for this number presented at the
Scout Gang Show at Sheringham Little Theatre by the Sheringham and Beeston Regis Scout
Group. |
 |
| This 'March of the Undertakers' was one of the amusing
numbers from the Sheringham and Beeston Regis Scouts'Gang Show. ENJOYMENT was the key word
in the Sheringham and Beeston Regis Scout Gang Show at the Little Theatre, Sheringham,
with Scouts of all ages combining for a fun-packed, almost laugh-a- minute show that
brought to the fore several young talents. The show, which began a three-day run on
Wednesday, encompasses the whole Gang Show arena with the familiar anthem of 'Riding Along
on the Crest of a Wave' running throughout. Topical jokes about the new local government
set up rolled readily from the tongue and of course there was the inevitable streaker
sketch performed we were told by a young Scout who had volunteered for the sketch at the
last minute and rehearsed just before the show. |
 |
This attitude really typified the way in which the Scouts
had thrown themselves wholeheartedly into the show and they seemed to enjoy taking part as
much as the audience enjoyed watching them. It is unfair to single out individuals, as
this was truly a team effort. Surprisingly, it was the group's first Gang Show and despite
their inexperience it ran very smoothly with no lack of skill. One sketch that did stand
out especially for those with a corny sense of humour was a piece entitled '20 Little Cub
Scouts' a variation on ten green bottles but very much funnier. Then there was a clever
hospital sketch enacted behind a screen to give added authenticity. It says much for the
Scouts that the theatre was full on the opening night and indeed there are but three free
seats for the other two nights. Proceeds from the shows will go to the Scouts' new
headquarters building fund."
Can you name anyone from either of these photografs? If so, let us know. |
