SPIRITUAL HEALING.’’ |
A lively workshop lecture on prayer-based
spiritual healing took place at the new Youth Club in Holt on May 21st at 7.30pm. It was
attended by over sixty people, most of whom expressed keen interest in the subject despite
being new to the ideas being discussed.
The workshop was conducted by Marta Greenwood, a member of a bureau of speakers who
lecture on Christian Science around the world. An experienced Christian Science
practitioner herself, the Iranian-born Londoner led an interesting discussion with full
audience participation, exploring ideas that lead to healing from the book
‘’Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.’’ ‘’Science
and Health’’ authored by Mary Baker Eddy, is the primary book on the healing
system which is called Christian Science.
Marta Greenwood told of Mrs Eddy’s significant healing after an accident, which left
her with severe internal injuries. A lifelong student of the Bible, Mrs Eddy read a Gospel
account of one of the healings attributed to Jesus, as she so often had before. What she
saw as the light of the Christ- the dawning understanding of how Jesus freed others from
sickness- became clear to her. She was cured and rose from her bed, to the amazement of
those who were anticipating her death. Marta also gave accounts of how the approach
to prayer she had learned of in ‘’Science and Health’’ had brought
health and well being to her own family. The book was offered for sale at the close of the
lecture and was purchased by many participants. It is also available in public libraries
and can be purchased from Christian Science Reading Rooms and at many bookshops.
