CRICKET
After two games being rained off, Sheringham were hopeful of finally completing a game against visitors Swanton Morley. Sheringham took the field first on an overcast day and gained the wicket of Davies early on following a fantastic throw from Garrard. Wickets seemed a forgotten virtue though as Sheringham bowled tight lines for no reward.

Forder and Packham played both played tidy innings with a strong 66 partnership before Packham was removed by D King for 25. Skipper Garrard then effected yet another run out with a fine direct hit to remove Thompson for 4. Forder moved onto 51 before being well caught by J Wright to give S Hudson his first wicket. This combination worked twice over as both Ryan and Loy gave catches to the safe hands of Wright to give Hudson fine figures of 3-34.

This collapse saw both Newell and Cotton fall to Neave however a final flurry from Walters and Tanner gave Swanton a respectable total of 157.

In reply, Sheringham began positively with Mckensie and Taylor moving the score along quickly until Taylor was caught for 6. Hudson followed soon after for 0 thanks to a good catch from Ryan. King joined the explosive Mckensie in the middle as the lobsters looked to finish the game off quickly.

Mckensie struck the ball very firmly all around the ground to move his score along to 52 before being adjugded leg before from Forder. King (14) and Balding (1) followed soon after with Sheringham needing 58 more runs to win but only 6 wickets left. Wright fell for 13 after another explosive performance and it was left to Hudson and W Neave to bring the boat home. A fine performance was displayed by 14yr old Neave as he struck the ball very firmly all around the ground to score a very quick 40 not out, well supported by S Hudson (8) as Sheringham sealed a much needed victory by 3 wickets.

FOOTBALL VISIT FROM TAMPERE
Tampere FC on a visit to Sheringham
For many of this team of under 12’s from Tampere, Finland it was their first ever trip abroad. When I went to visit them playing a round robin match with Sheringham Youth FC and East Coast Eagles, Cromer you could see that they were having a fantastic time. Another first for them was playing eleven-a-side as in Finland their age group play seven-a-side.

The visit was organised by David Morris and Royboys and was an outstanding success. Accommodation was provided for them all at Seaview. The boys played cricket and football on the beach, went ‘crabbing’, had a trip on Beans Boats to visit the seals and joined in lessons at Sheringham High School.

It is hoped that Sheringham Youth FC, who are off to Holland on 31st July, will be able to arrange a visit to Tampere at a later date.
