SNAP DANCES, ever heard of
them? Well
SNAP stands for Say No And Phone and is a project aimed at 11 - 17 year olds. The SNAP
Community Partnership organise safe entertainment for our youth every school holiday.
On a Monday an event is held at Funky Monkeys for 11 - 14 year olds, the package varies
slightly from event to event, but generally includes a huge bouncy castle assault course,
bands and dance groups who help to teach the latest dances. Many Youth Organisations are
involved and there is a quiet corner where themed activities like hair braiding, Mother's
Day projects and many other interesting things take place.
On the Wednesday of that week an event is held at Time Night-club for the 14 - 17 year
olds and coaches are laid on for this from Fakenham, Cromer and North Walsham. The
in-house Time DJ provides the music and the atmosphere is really wired. Time provide the
staff, but again many Youth Organisations, Police and Council representatives are involved
so the events are well manned. Everyone is searched before they go into the club and
cigarettes, alcohol, illegal substances and chewing gum are all confiscated at the door.
At the October 2nd Year party, passive drugs dogs attended and found nothing at all. As
well as the DJ there is a Chill Out Area where help and advice is given and this is always
very popular as it deals with the current problems, for example, helping to cope with
exams at exam time.
If anyone arrives who has been drinking alcahol or appears to be under the influence of
illegal substances, they are NOT turned away. They are taken to a quiet room and their
parents or a responsible adult is called and asked to come and collect them.
Tickets for these events are £4 and are available from Woolworths in Cromer, North
Walsham and Fakenham and various places in Norwich including Virgin. If tickets are bought
in Cromer or North Walsham you are able to book a coach ticket too at a cost of £1. If
tickets are bought in Norwich you are not able to book the coach. Tickets are not
available on the door.
SNAP is run in conjunction with Crimestoppers and a donation is made to them every year
from the proceeds. Small donations are also made to local Youth Projects in the form of a
grant of up to £250.00.
Unfortunately, we at the paper are a bit late for the Christmas events, however some of
you will receive this issue in time to book so we are giving you those dates and ones for
next year.

We have a real Brain Teaser for you this issue, there is more than one answer to this
problem, one is easy and the others very complicated. See how you get on.
There are 12 golf balls, all of which appear to be
identical although one is known to be of incorrect weight. Using a simple balance, capable
of comparison only, can you make just three weighings to determine which ball is defective
and whether it is heavy or light? |
