School Activities Week Friday, July 23, 2004 A Time Forgotten |
| Ok. Recipe: Take 35 kids, 50% of whom have
never acted; one Head of Expressive Arts, Kathryn Flynn; an ex-pupil going down the
professional road, Tanya Williams; a team of costume and scenery makers; condense a
locally written play to one hour; rehearse, dress rehearsal; put together a small
Orchestra, writing the music for it and give it four days from conception to first night.
OK you don't believe me. I don't blame you. I saw it with my own eyes. What was even more
shocking was that it worked. Kathrynn Flynn had a spell in 'Theatre in Education', where
professional actors go into schools and produce plays of a topical nature to youngsters
not normally interested in dramatic arts. A good training ground. She also teaches English
at the school. The play was a sort of moral parable, with lots of very well choreographed
dancing, cameo scenes, finely organised arrangements for the songs and background music
and one or two rather clever performances by particularly Emma Sorrell, using clever
facial and eye expressions and Joe Vanlint using humour to its full potential.
The choreography in 'Thriller' was particularly noteworthy as well as the dancing
throughout. Whoever does the Choreography at the school is very clever. I've noticed this
before at the last pantomime. The Orchestra was stiffened by Jane Bussey who apart from
instrumental teaching at the school, runs the Cromer Music Festival. I'm also glad to see
Val. Crowe back in the community not only for her musicianship but also for her immense
talents and experience gained abroad and in her career. Heavyweight support like this is
certainly not being wasted by Helen, Head of Music at the School. The glow on the faces of
the youngsters after their last night, tells me that this whole thing will be a lasting
memory throughout their lifetimes and a fitting testimonial to the professionals who
injected their ability, commitment and vision into these youngsters lives. Thank you for a
wonderful experience. I think on behalf of all those parents there I can say, "Well
Done You Lot". |

I went on a
trip last week. The traffic was moderate and the journey took two and a half hours. On the
return journey, the traffic was similar, but I made it back in 150 minutes.
How come? |
At a meeting of the members of the
Sheringham Advice Centre (SAC) held on July 28th it was unanimously resolved to Dissolve
the Sheringham Advice Centre, Charity No 1089608 in accordance with section U of the
Constitution.
The last session for Advice, on a Thursday at the Sheringham Community Centre, will be on
Thursday 26th August. Any correspondence after that date should be sent to the
Treasurer, SAC 4 Beeston Road, Sheringham, NR26 8EH.
Originally set up in the late 1980's, as part of the now closed Sheringham Community
Action Service, because funding for a full Citizen's Advice Bureau (CAB) was not
available, SAC joined the Federation of Independent Advice Centres (FIAC) and subsequently
became a Registered Charity. It might be said that the original purpose has now been
achieved, with the imminent opening of a part-time CAB office in Sheringham.
Terry Beckett, Honorary Treasurer SAC. |

| My little girl was pounding away on our computer for
hours. She told me she was writing a story. I asked her what her story was about and
she said, "I don't know, I can't read". |
