Our visit to Otterndorf
October 2004.
We will always remember our first visit to Otterndorf because of the very warm welcome from our hosts and all their friends, but also from our fellow travellers.  The journey on the coach and ferry was very pleasant thanks to the organisation of Norman & Sigrid.  Fortunately, the weather was good which resulted in a very calm crossing. Our cabins were very comfortable and the meals excellent.  When we got to know our hosts, we found out that we had a lot in common, so there was plenty to laugh and talk about.  On our first day we went to Papenburg, which has the most modern Shipyard in Europe. That was an experience not to be missed. It is difficult to imagine the size of it. It was a very long day out, but well worth it. Our friend, Marianne Landsmam, who had also organised the trip, provided lunch. Thank you, Marianne.  Our friends took us out every day, and we saw some very interesting places. Our cameras were going non-stop!  The last day was very special: We were invited to a lovely restaurant, where we were served with gorgeous cakes and coffee in the afternoon, entertained by the 'Elbernasikanten', a group with 2 playing the accordion, 3 adult singers and 8 youngsters, dressed in sailor suits, the oldest one being 10 years old. They sang their hearts out for us!  In the evening a Shanty choir from Altenbruch sang for us.  The owner of the restaurant provided a superb barbecue with every salad under the sun.  We were very sad to leave, but are going to keep in touch. We hope that our hosts will visit us sometime.
We have already booked another trip to our lovely Otterndorf with its lovely people.
