READERS LETTER
Dear Editor.
Is not it sad just how pathetic, childish and purposely awkward some people can be. Recently my wife drove to the newsagent on Sunway Park to get a few things after finishing work. She duly parked her car in the car park provided, and proceeded to do some shopping. Just as my wife was leaving, and quite obviously going to her car, one of the local boy racer chavs parked his chav mobile across the rear of her car. For good measure he also blocked the pavement before entering the shop. Fully aware that he had blocked her in, he then decided to carry on a little chat he had struck up with someone whilst watching her struggle to extradite her car from the sitiuation this delightful individual had created.

Bad enough to do it to anyone, but to bully a woman out on her own at night is utterly vile. Sadly though, due to the nature of my work, if I were ever charged with a criminal offence, I would lose my job. So one has to rise above these people as it were, not the hardest intellectual challenge I've ever faced it has to be said.

It seem that some chavs are not as up to date with their current affairs as the rest of us, (not a lot of news on Trisha I suppose), as it would appear that they are the minority of people in this country who is not aware that it is, and has been for nearly a year, illegal to drive whilst using a mobile phone, and an absolutely disgusting thing to do when conveying other people.

The irony being, that if I and several other people in and around this area had the problem of our belief in our driving ability far exceeding our actual driving ability, then more than one child would have been quite seriously hurt some time ago. It is only because the drivers involved in these near misses could read speed signs, road conditions, and use indicators that they were prevented. And when it happens in front of the childs parents, and they don't even notice, it really sticks in the throat. Priorities I suppose.

I just find it very sad that certain strata of society have a mindset of thinking they have a right to act as they see fit, with no regard for what can only be described as higher evolved members of the same species. This may seem a tad harsh on first reading, but most of us know how to act and conduct ourselves around other people and in public. Most of us don't go out of our way to make other peoples lives difficult and unpleasant, and most of us do not own an over inflated sense of our own importance so large we don't realise just how dense one is percieved to be by others.

They choose to behave in this manner, it takes effort to be anti-social, and there is no excuse. So why do we continue to tolerate these people?

And speeding along our residential streets at 5000rpm in 2nd gear in their chav mobiles disturbing those of us that work for a living, and wasting our taxes on cheap 'bling bling' gold coated metal by the bucket load making us think "umm, tasteful" is not going to help the situation any. Maybe it's the boredom of driving around town all day whilst the rest of us are at work that sets them off, it's anyones guess.

Who knows, next time one of these excuses decides to play the prat, a police car might pull up and dish out a few well earned tickets.

Martin Sexton's illustrated talk and demonstration held at Sheringham Library last month, was a huge success. He was charming and friendly; telling jokes and making his audience feel quite at ease. It was a successful afternoon; as Briston born, Martin, managed to captivate everyone and certainly inspired me to take up watercolour painting.
We were encouraged to ask questions, and he explained everything very carefully and giving good advice like not having to buy expensive brushes but good quality paper is essential for watercolour painting.  I particularly would like to thank the library staff who provided tea and biscuits, which was much appreciated by everyone who attended.   Martin became a freelance artist in 1987 and works from his Studio in Sheringham.

He sells, calendars, greetings cards as well as signed prints.
You can visit his studio but its wise to phone him on 01263 823226 before making your journey. You can also be added to the mailing list for future events, or if you would like a particular commission undertaken register your details by visiting the contact page on his web site;
