BeFriends is a local project which covers
North Norfolk as well as having a base in Norwich. It is a project of BUILD, an
independent voluntary organisation and registered charity which supports people with
learning difficulties. Be Friends main aim is to give people with learning difficulties
the opportunity to get out and about more and have fun with the support of a volunteer.
Members and volunteers are matched according to their interests, hobbies and personalities
and it is very important that they have fun together! Activities could include going to
the pub, bowling, cinema, chatting over a coffee, theatre...the world's your oyster AND we
pay all volunteer expenses! BeFriends also hold group activities and social gatherings
such as the BUILD annual party and summer BBQ.
We are currently looking for volunteers within the North Norfolk area, which covers
Sheringham, Cromer, Walcott, inland to North Walsham and the villages in between. If you
are interested in finding out more about the BeFriends project, using our service or
becoming a volunteer then please call Sharon Foster on 01603 618029 or you can make an
appointment to visit Sharon at the BeFriends base in North Walsham Community Centre. If
preferred you may email on befriends@buildnorwich.org.uk or visit the website at

LETTER |
Dear Editor.
I have just read one of the most sad and hypocritical pieces of tripe I have have seen for
a long time. The letter from the good ole christians complaining about trick or treat in
your last issue was just typical of the intolerance of these people. Yes, of course you
are going to get the moron brigade going around making peoples lives a misery, these prats
exist everywhere, (we had some prat letting fireworks off on October 22nd for crying out
loud). I do agree wholeheartedly with the poster idea, I imagine it can be
frightening for some people. But are we to stop the majority of harmless children having
some fun because of a few poor excuses for human beings? Sadly though this is not
about caring for others, it is the usual intolerance exuded by chrisitians so at least
have the guts to be honest about your reasoning. To play on peoples fears to get them to
go along with your hatred of anything or anyone different is out of order, when it is
quite obvious it is your inability to live by the very doctrine of your sect that is the
problem. The whole trick or treat thing is just as much a pile of gibberish nonsense
as christianity, islam and any other man made invention you care to mention. The
difference being this is just a few young kids knocking on doors asking for some sweets
for a couple of hours one night of the year. They are not persecuting others for
disagreeing with them, not butchering entire cultures for being different, not victimising
others because of their race, colour or creed or sexuality as the good ole chrisitians
have been known to do, and still continue to do so when the mood takes them. How dare you
treat these children like criminals. It's a shame these good ole christians don't
heed their own advice:choose alternative activities and stop 'targeting' the rest of us
every other day of the year with their superstitious mumbo jumbo and ignorance.
There's enough hatred on this planet, much of it caused by those afflicted with this awful
disease called religion, don't start bullying children out to get a few sweets for crying
out loud. |
