| High blood pressure is a very common health
problem, affecting 1 in 3 adults in the UK. If left untreated, it increases your chances
of suffering from a stroke or developing heart disease. Fortunately, however, high
blood pressure can usually be treated successfully. Simple lifestyle changes, sometimes in
combination with medicines prescribed by your doctor, can bring your blood pressure back
to normal. Once your blood pressure is under control, your risk of developing heart
disease or having a stroke is lowered. Unlike many other conditions, high blood
pressure rarely has any symptoms, meaning you could have high blood pressure without even
knowing it. The only way to find out whether you have high blood pressure is to have a
blood pressure test. That's why Lloyd's pharmacy offers a FREE blood pressure testing
service. By having your blood pressure tested, you are taking an important step to look
after your own health. Lloyd's pharmacy also offers a no-appointment, in store diabetes
testing service to encourage early detection, people may be unknowingly living with
diabetes and Christmas often means lots of high sugar products, which are not normally
eaten in such quantities. Having a test now can help prevent many serious health problems
such as heart failure, blindness, other major complications and ultimately can save your
live. Eat five portions of fruit and vegetables every day. Change the way you cook
food - try grilling instead of frying, and steam instead of boiling. Reduce
the amount of fat and sugar in your diet. Remember to check food labels for the
amount of fat and sugar in foods. |
