Christmas Lights logo
After initial concerns regarding the closing of the three main streets to traffic in Sheringham on Christmas Eve. There has been a lot of discussion between the Christmas Lights Team and the Chamber of Trade. The proposal to close the main streets to traffic on Christmas Eve has been postponed.   However, the SHERINGHAM CHRISTMAS LIGHT SWITCH ON will have a much greater focus than in previous years.  This will be held on FRIDAY 26th NOVEMBER 2004 the main streets will be closed to traffic from around 1.30pm (there is provision for businesses needing vehicular access to their premises, of course).  This will be an exciting event in Sheringham with lots of fun activities, children's painting competition, fair ground rides, hot chestnuts, charity stalls, a shop window dressing competition and the Salvation Army Band will be playing, there are also plans for a creche and lots more.

The stars of the Pantomime will be mingling with the crowds so fancy dress is encouraged. The switch on by Julie Reinger of BBC TV LOOK EAST who is also in the Pantomime, will be at around 6.45pm followed by the excellent Town Band and the 'Lobster Potties' Sheringham's own, hugely popular Morris dancing team.  This event in Sheringham should be covered by LOOK EAST TV so if you want to be spotted BE THERE!
Don't forget also to take advantage of the FREE parking on Saturday's leading up to Christmas!  Tony Nelson, Chairman Sheringham Christmas Lights Team.  Jools McLeod, Chairman Sheringham Chamber of Trade.

FATHER CHRISTMAS
SHERINGHAM EVENING WI
Home-made biscuits were much enjoyed by members and friends of Sheringham Evening WI at the event held as part of the Macmillan Cancer Relief’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in September. Thanks go from the mornings hostess, committee member Maureen Cook, to all those who helped by baking bisuits, donating gifts for the bring-and-buy and Raffle and supporting in any other way. A total of £330 was raised, which will be used to fund the work of Macmillan Cancer Relief locally. At our October meeting the entertainment was arranged by a team of non-committee members, ably led by Sylvia Tatum. Four members, Julie, Maggie, Margaret and Sylvia herself made our mouths water as they described their favourite recipes for cakes, nibbles and cheesecake and then produced the finished dishes for tasting with our coffee break. After this Elsie Swann got our brains active with a general knowledge quiz which was won by Jose Gallagher. With some time for chatting, the evening was enjoyed by all. The Institute is now preparing for a busy Autumn. New members and visitors are welcome at any of our meetings.
Sheringham History Group.
The next meeting will take place on Wednesday 8th December, at 7.30pm, at The Burlington Lodge, St. Nicholas Place.
The topic for discussion will be; Local Shops and Businesses.
All are welcome. For any queries phone Mary 01263 825157.

Grampa plays crib every Tuesday.  Does that mean he can't play at Christmas because there's no Crib?
TEMPTING TREAT THIS CHRISTMAS
One lucky local person will be full of Christmas cheer this year – thanks to Norwich and Peterborough Building Society (N&P)!  Staff at N&P’s branch at 29 High Street, Sheringham, are offering everyone – not just existing customers - the chance to really celebrate the festive season in style. They are holding a prize draw to win a super luxury hamper from Larners of Holt (worth £70). It’s chock full of luxury Christmas goodies, including shortbread, chocolates and fruit cake.  Everyone (aged 18 and over) who visits the branch and fills in an entry form from now until close of business on Wednesday 15th December 2004 will be able to enter the draw. The winner of the hamper will be notified on or before Monday 20th December 2004.  Justine Birch, mortgage advisor at N&P’s Sheringham branch, said: “We wanted to give our customers something extra to look forward to this Christmas with this fantastic hamper prize draw. It will certainly ease the Christmas shopping load for one lucky person and they will have lots of tempting Christmas treats to share with their family and friends over the holiday!”
