CHRISTMAS SHOE BOX APPEAL
All over Sheringham for weeks, several people and organisations have been busy putting together Christmas Shoe Boxes for children of all ages.

Operation Christmas Child has been running since 1990 and gift boxes are sent to hurting children around the world.

The smallest of present, like a pretty hair bobble or a small toy can bring undefined pleasure to those who have so very little.

This year, to our knowledge over 600 boxes were collected in Sheringham to be sent out. That is a marvellous achievement for a small town.

Photo of Operation Christmas Box The Sonshiners and Stargazers of St Andrew's with help from friends collected an impressive pile of shoe boxes and St Joseph's Church had so many that it took almost an hour to carry them all out to the waiting van! As you can see, the worry was that the van would not have enough room and this was already it's second trip to Sheringham!
Get ready for next years appeal!

Dear Editor,
It was widely reported in the Press and talked about how our District Council had reported me to The Standards Board for England for questioning the behaviour and integrity of Officers in regard to our housing stock transfer procedure. Please allow me through your columns to advise readers that the initial findings of the Standards Board is that there has been no wrongdoing on my part.  It is important that all Tenants be given the opportunity to express a view about transfer should they so wish. Officers often give the impression that they have no pecuniary interest, the facts tell us otherwise. As an example – Sunderland has recently transferred it’s stock at £6,273 for each property, about the same as ours is likely to go for, with the Officer concerned having his wages almost doubled from £70,000 to £ 135,000 per annum. I think the modern term for such a reward and bargain is – Wow! – The Ouch comes when local tax payers realise they have not only lost control of their most valuable assets but it’s going to cost them more in Tax as well.  Tenants now need to be prepared for the hard sell; paid Council employees will soon be calling with a glossy video and a persuasive manner. I call on all fair minded people to join my campaign to ensure a no vote in regard to housing stock transfer as it is currently being presented, it is seriously flawed. There are alternatives, which Tenants haven’t been allowed to consider, such as partial sale of stock or my preference, which is a housing Co-Operative.  Ron Stone, Holt Ward Member
