The Shannocks
Pam and Simon took over the business in September immediately renaming the restaurant as ‘Shannocks and set about the refurbishment in November. The new restaurant was open to the public on Saturday 27th November. Pam and Simon hosted a supper for invited guests on Friday 26th including members of the Sheringham Carnival and Christmas Lights Committees.
The Shannocks opening night
The word’’Shannock’ has been associated with Sheringham for many years and is understood to mean a resident of Sheringham. Pam and Simon are keen to know more about the history of the word and when and why the businesses they know was called ‘’Shannocks’’ They are currently looking for memorabilia, old photographs and personal memories to incorporate into the restaurant décor and menus. Pam is hopeful that there are a few Sheringham residents with long memories and perhaps a few old photographs showing the Shannocks in days gone by. During the refurbishment Simon was lucky enough to come across a photograph of the building tucked away in the cellar somewhat stained and battered with age, he is hopeful that he can get it cleaned for display in the restaurant.
