Sheringham Evening WI
Our AGM in November was well attended and we welcomed WI Advisor, Florence Lloyd to help us through the proceedings. Retiring President Joan Cozens was warmly thanked after her four years in office and Marian Clark was elected as our new President.

We have recently been able to follow up the donation we made earlier this year to Sheringham Primary School, at 570 pupils, the second largest primary school in Norfolk. Several members visited the school to see the four digital movie cameras bought with the £400 result of special fundraising by the Institute. Pupils from Year 5 were on hand to present Certificates of thanks to the Institute and to show how the cameras could be used in classroom situations where instant playback would be a valuable teaching aid. We were thrilled when teacher Tim Groves recorded our visit on camera enabling us to be seen world-wide via the school web site.
Sheringham evening WI at the Primary School
A team of WI volunteers, led by Maureen Cook has tended the garden at the Sheringham Station of the Bittern Line for nineteen years, and they have now been able to fulfil a long-held ambition to position and plant some permanent troughs on the platform. After discussions with Anglia Railway representatives and a little help from local MP Norman Lamb, the project was given the go-ahead. Thanks must also go to Mike Pigott of Sheringham in Bloom for his assistance in the making and assembly of the wooden troughs. Plants will be chosen to give a year-round display, as the station gives the first impression of our town for so many of our visitors.

Our first meeting of the New Year will be at St Andrew’s Church Hall on Thursday 13 January, when Robina Churchyard will speak of the work of the Sheringham Childrens’ Trust. Please note that from January, all our meetings will start at the earlier time of 7.15pm. New members and visitors are always welcome.  Celia Dolton

Speed dating is a fast, fun and modern way of making new friends, increasing your social circle and perhaps meeting that 'special someone'.  Until now Speed Dating has only been available in Norwich, but that is about to change as it is now being brought to North Norfolk by a couple of friends who, being single themselves, know just how difficult it is to meet someone of the opposite sex in busy day to day lives!

Each date lasts three minutes which, if you have ever been on a blind date in the past, is quite enough time to tell if the 'chemistry' is there or not!  Half way through the evening there is a break - a great opportunity to speak to someone you have already met or someone who has 'tickled your fancy' without having been introduced to as yet.

There will also be time to have a drink and a chat after the event.   The dress code is smart casual, the age range is 35-50 and the numbers restricted to 15 men and 15 women so please book early to avoid disappointment. Full event details:-

Ballroom Suite, Cliftonville Hotel, Runton Road, Cromer 7pm for 7.30pm on Thurs 20th Jan 2005 for ages 35-50. £15 per person. Please ring 01263 512283 (Paul) or 01263 514859 (John) for details
