LETTER |
Dear Sir/Madam,
The situation outside Sheringham Primary School nearly ended in disaster this morning,
with a blue four-wheel drive narrowly missing a Mum and her two toddlers and a baby in a
pushchair. The four-wheeler, driven by a woman, dropped off her little Tommy or Tracy
outside the school gate, then, without looking, reversed into the car park opening, and
without a shout from another parent, at both the family and the car driver, there could
have been serious injury or even fatalities. When will these parents realise that their
children are quite capable of walking the last few yards to school and need not add to the
danger of unpredictable little ones running about and playing. Will it need a fatality
before the police take concerted action to stop this craziness once and for all. There has
been some discussion in the press lately of the legality or illegality of stopping or
parking on the zig-zag lines, but surely that is a minor consideration for all parents. We
all want our children to go to and from school with the maximum of safety and that means
parents being conscious of the danger they inflict on them. There are a few parents who
are abusing their rights and the rights of the majority, by their refusal to let their
children get more than a spot of rain on their heads.

| Guiding
in Sheringham |
November has been a busy month for Rainbows
Brownies and Guides. The first event for the two older sections was Remembrance Day parade
and I would like to thank all the girls (and their parents) for braving a chilly wind to
participate in the Sunday Parade. It was a day for wearing lots of layers under uniforms
to keep warm!
The next main event saw Rainbows, Brownies and Guides enjoy a Disco at the Youth and
Community Centre. This is one of the regular Friends of Guiding Discos, which are staged
throughout the year for the girls enjoyment whilst raising funds to meet our H.Q,
running costs.
Following on from the Disco, the next day in fact, the Friends of Guiding combined with
the Units in Sheringham to hold a Christmas Fayre at St Andrews. This was a busy affair
and several of the stalls were selling items made by the girls in their unit meetings.
Brownies helped serve the refreshments and were wonderful waitresses. I would like to
thank everyone who supported the Christmas Fayre, either by the donating of raffle prizes,
items for the hamper, making cakes or coming along on the day to spend some money. The
event was very successful raising £414 to date, with a little more expected at the end of
the month.
Combined with the monies raised at the Disco we have added £516 to our funds. These
monies raised are spent on running costs and maintenance, allowing the termly
subscriptions to be spent within the Units on the girls, on resources and any badges they
have achieved.
Friends of Guiding is a small but enthusiastic group of mums and people wishing to support
Guiding in Sheringham, perhaps people whose daughters have moved on but still are keen to
help. We are always pleased to see new faces at our planning meetings. Our next meeting is
on Tuesday 30th November at 7.45 pm, anyone is welcome. For more information contact Sue,
District Commissioner/FOG Treasurer on 514482 or Sylvia, FOG Chairperson, on 821717. |
