BAND REVIEW - Tim Jefferson
Mother Funk
This band plays Funk (a lively danceable 70s style, currently very popular). They do it well. I had a chance meeting with them on one of my visits to the prom to inflict my bagpipes on the North Sea. It was good to have the time to really talk. They'd just finished a photo shoot down by the beach. They are a 4 piece (female vocal, guitar, bass and drums). The singer had a cold but saw the gig through very well. The band played with real spirit and was sincere and confident. There was great interplay between the guitar and bass and between bass and drums, so vital in this kind of music. The audience loved it and really buzzed by the time they called it a day. Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, 10cc and Red Hot Chilli Peppers were just some of their list. They did one of their own numbers, very good. This band is well worth seeing and has incredibly been together for only a few months.

White Heat
This band play Vintage Classic Rock which generally doesn't go down very well at the Crown. They play with courage and determination in the face of a tough crowd and exploit their strengths with great audience interaction. The music was well played and balanced and their sheer enthusiasm for their stuff gave a good atmosphere to the evening. I think it's good for the pub to have different kinds of music. Contrast from the usual modern rock is good for everyone. Good guitar playing from both guitarists, fine female finger-style bass playing and tight drumming delivered music with strength and dignity. I was right last time when I said that this is a band to watch out for. I would recommend them.

Can YOU Help The Wave Survivors?
The most urgent single problem facing the survivors of the Wave in Asia is finding a supply of safe drinking-water. Many of the outbreaks of disease and infection, which commonly follow disasters such as this, are as a direct result of drinking polluted water. This can rapidly cause epidemics such as Typhoid and Cholera which can be simply and easily prevented when polluted water is correctly treated in an “AQUABOX”.   The “AQUABOX” comprises three simple components, a rigid re-enforced 75 litre plastic container, a re-useable carbon activated filter and dispensing tap. The container is filled with whatever water can be found locally which is initially strained manually through muslin to remove any solid rubbish. A single purification tablet is then added to the filtered water. After 2 hours, drinking water may be drawn off from the tap.   Aylsham Rotary has sponsored an “AQUABOX 30” this week, which will provide the means to purify 33,000 litres of water, and they would like to raise as much as possible to send as many more as they can on behalf of the people of Aylsham who would like to help. Aylsham Rotarians will be collecting in Aylsham over the coming weeks to raise the £250 needed for a box.
To help the Aquabox appeal there will be collecting boxes in James the Barber and The Black Boys in the Market Place. The Aylsham branch of the British Legion is having a special collection on New Years Eve and Keys Auctioneers are having boxes available next Tuesday.  The urgency in this appeal cannot be overstressed as the UN has said that disease could double the death toll.

“AQUABOX” was launched in 1992 and has sent over 20,000 boxes to over 30 countries. The scheme is operated entirely by unpaid volunteers. Visit their website at www.aquabox.org
