USE MILDENHALL TO FLY NORFOLK’S AID TO ASIA
Norman Lamb, Lib Dem MP for North Norfolk, has today asked the Ministry of Defence and the American Embassy to open up Mildenhall Air Base to help the humanitarian crisis in South Asia. Mr Lamb has suggested that one of the American transport planes that fly into Mildenhall regularly could deliver North Norfolk’s donations directly to South Asia.  Norman Lamb said this morning: “It’s been suggested that the quickest and most efficient route from Norfolk direct to South Asia is to put one of the planes visiting Mildenhall Air Base to humanitarian use. C-5 Galaxy and C-17 Globemaster transport planes regularly visit Mildenhall; it would make a real difference to the speed the donated goods reach those who need them.  I have today written to both the American Ambassador in London and Geoff Hoon, Secretary of State for Defence, asking if one of the US transport planes visiting Mildenhall can be used to take Norfolk’s contribution to the tsunami appeal directly South Asia.”  Mr Lamb, who assisted with the collection of donated goods in Sheringham this morning, says the response from North Norfolk has been phenomenal: “North Norfolk residents have demonstrated amazing generosity in response to the tsunami emergency appeal and donated a vast quantity of blankets, clothes, soap and other useful items to help those who have been left destitute in South Asia.  North Norfolk is not an especially wealthy area yet the local response to the crisis in South Asia has been overwhelming. I hope we can boost this local relief effort further getting the goods as quickly as possible from Norfolk to those people in South Asia whose lives have been devastated by this appalling natural disaster.”
I am trying to trace a Witton Cottage, Sheringham where an ancestor of mine lived in 1907. His name was Jonathan George Lake and in this year his mother, Mahala Lake died there.
Any ideas if this address still exists please
Cheers

DISASTER RELIEF
Conservative Candidate Iain Dale spent much of this morning helping dozens of volunteers in Sheringham load up vanfulls of clothes and blankets for the disaster relief effort in South East Asia. He has also appealed to airlines to come to transport the three container loads of clothing and blankets which were collected during the morning at Sheringham Fire Station.  Iain said: "It was heartwarming to see people turn out in such huge numbers. Cars stretched for hundreds of yards in both directions in Cromer Road and they were all stuffed full with bags of blankets and clothing. It demonstrates what a great community spirit we have in North Norfolk. I know there are dozens of fundraising events going on all over the constituency which are a great credit to all those involved. Anyone wishing to help the Sheringham efforts can contact the organisers of today's collection Tabitha or Eroica on 07900955825. Also, anyone with any contacts in the aviation world should get in touch with me or the organisers as we need to find ways of transporting three containers to South East Asia very quickly."

PARAMEDICS
In the early hours of Monday 6th December: a visiting friend of mine was taken ill. It was serious enough for me to dial 999.
The para-medics, a young couple, male and female arrived very promptly and with quiet efficiency did every test possible before deciding to take him to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, where he spent a week recovering and is now back home in Suffolk. He was told that if it had not been for such prompt attention, his heart attack could have been a lot more serious. So on his behalf, and, including his family I would like to thank the young couple most sincerely for their dedicated care. I only wish that I could thank the emergency operator whose calm reassurance was so very comforting. Grateful thanks and best wishes to all those involved.M Rayner.
