ARMY TERRITORIAL COMMANDERS VISIT SHERINGHAM |
 |
Sheringham Corps of The Salvation Army are delighted to
have the Territorial Commanders of The Salvation Army with them over the Easter period,
where they will lead and address all open-air and indoor meetings. Commissioners
Shaw & Helen Clifton are to The Salvation Army what Rowan & Jane Williams are to
The Church of England. We'd be pretty impressed if The Archbishop of Canterbury came to
East Anglia, and so we are honoured to have them with us in Sheringham for three whole
days. Together, Commissioners Shaw & Helen Clifton, lead The Salvation Army in the
United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland Territory.
Immediately prior to this role, Commissioner Clifton with his wife were in charge of
Salvation Army work in New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga. They became Salvation Army officers in
1973 and have worked in the UK, Zimbabwe, the USA and Pakistan. Commissioner Shaw, who is
58, is a lawyer. Holding a Bachelor of Divinity degree and also a PhD in the History of
Religion, he maintains a close interest in the interface between Christian belief and the
current political climate, including the international political scene.
Commissioner Helen Clifton has always had a deep interest in youth work and also in the
importance of educating women in developing countries. The couple have three grown up
children.
