BURE
VALLEY RAILWAY SPONSORED WALK ON BEHALF OF MACMILLAN CANCER RELIEF
The Macmillan Cancer Relief 'Bure Valley Railway Sponsored Walk' is back
and we need you to put your best foot forward
to support local cancer services!
Please join us to walk the 9 miles of beautiful pathway alongside the Bure Valley Railway
from Wroxham to Aylsham and help people living with cancer in Norfolk. This year,
our walk runs over the weekend of Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th April. It's up to you which
date you choose to walk on and you can begin your walk at anytime between 8am and 9.30am
on the day. Once you have reached Aylsham, we will provide you with free and tasty
refreshments to help you get your strength back after your walk! Then why not browse
around the fascinating Aylsham station, and then relax while we transport you back to
Wroxham on one of the Bure Valley Railway's fantastic trains for free. What could be
easier and more fun than that! All we ask is for each individual walker to raise at
least £25 and each family of four (2 adults and 2 children) to raise at least £60 in
sponsorship to fund vital local cancer services. Last year, you helped Macmillan
Cancer Relief raise over £26,000 through taking part in the Bure Valley Railway Walk.
Please help us to raise even more this year to support local people living with cancer.
If you would like to put your best foot forward for Macmillan Cancer Relief in
Norfolk, then please decide whether you would like to walk on the 9th or 10th of April and
then call Jess at the Norfolk fundraising office on 01603 626433 to register for our
sponsored walk. Once you have registered, we will send you your entry pack which is
crammed with fundraising tips, information on the walk and sponsorship forms. (Please note
that there is a registration fee of £5 per walker over 5 years old). So see you in
April for a great day out to support vital cancer services in our local community. www.macmillan.org.uk/norfolk
SHERINGHAM EVENING W.I.
We welcomed two speakers to our February meeting. First John Ashton,
Chairman of Sheringham Carnival Committee, told us of the changes planned for this year.
He thanked the Institute for the support and help during previous Carnival weeks and
assured us that the many ways in which we help were much valued in making the annual event
such a success.
Then Penny Bevan Jones, founder of Excel 2000, stepped into the breach at very short
notice due to the unavailability of the booked speaker. Penny is well known locally as
many 'not so young' residents of the Sheringham area benefit from her exercise sessions at
the Splash Leisure Pool. She trained as an S.R.N. and subsequently discovered the huge
potential for healing and well-being in T'ai Chi and gentle movement. Ten years ago she
founded Excel 2000 to provide structured movement training to help individuals to achieve
their full potential. Having recovered from two serious illnesses herself, she is a
shining testimony to this approach. Members were soon joining in movement and gentle
exercise to music, singing along when we knew the words, and all , thankfully, without the
need to strip down to leotards An interesting programme of outings has been planned for
this year, and members were asked at this meeting to indicate their preferences. We are
also planning to bring members with similar interests together to form groups for walking,
crafts, singing, scrabble and darts, so 2005 promises to be a busy year for the Institute.
Our April meeting will be on Thursday 14th of the month, when we shall be
celebrating our 28th Birthday. Entertainment will be provided by Informality Barbershop.
The meeting starts at 7.15pm at St Andrew's Church Hall, Cromer Road. Celia Dolton.
