Sheringham Community PaperHello and welcome to yet another edition of hearsay. Well this time I have got to extol myself in proclaiming that I am appealing! And not necessarily in a grandiose manner. I mean that ever since we were told a thousand times, that we would all be frozen in our beds with that much snow Antarctica would be pleased to see it I rushed out to purchase the old flannel long johns and a thermal all in one thing-a-me-jig. Yes I am now appealing to those in the know if they could, just for once get their predictions correct for this little bit of Norfolk? I like many folks turned out for my regular shop to Morrisons, only to find that three years worth of milk and bread had flown off the shelves in a nanosecond after the imminent doomsday forecast was announced. Panic stricken elderly folk flocked in their thousands to the chemists for enough prescribed drugs to give even the most hardened rock star a high for a month at an equivalent cost that would fund wacko Jacko’s lawyers until he proves he’s not a nutter. I guess I’ll have to put my lovely little tea tray (a useful sled) back on the sideboard for another year or until they forecast a heat wave for Easter!

So here we are Easter is now upon us and this year it’s about as early as it can be. The days are getting longer and over the Easter weekend we have to put forward the clocks an hour. So that’s my beauty sleep out of the window. If I don’t get my twelve hours I’m no good for anything. I might as well dig a hole and hibernate. Talking of digging holes, I see that part of Ottendorf Green has come under construction of late. And just what can all this earth working mean I ask oneself? Could it be a new southern Tesco bypass? A new towns indoor Bowling Green or boating lake perhaps. Or possibly the foundations to our new European initiative and funding to build a family set of medieval stocks for those that still wish to flout the law on fox hunting. A punishment as old and as fitting as the pursuit. But No! This work is to be the steam railway’s new extended line and platform as the current one isn’t long enough. Yet another step towards Norwich I find myself asking, and for 5 grand our very own council sold it to them. A bargain wot? One wonders now just what will become of all the dosh? One idea would be to place a covered walk way down the High Street from Done’s. Mainly to gain favour with the Grand National brigade, as they will want to be covered from the elements as they queue to place their bets at this new betting headquarters establishment that is soon to don the town centre.

I was also glad to espy that common sense has at last prevailed and that some sensible soul has taken the initiative to remove the small forest from the wall outside the Chinese take-away in Station Approach. We can at last now see oncoming coaches, cyclists and motorised buggies that terrorise any unsuspecting motorist as they head straight for you and seem to pop up from out of the ether is if by magic. Talking of clearing ground, as I mentioned last time it seems now that Sheringham is poised in the grip of a new building frenzy. Demolition of the old school canteen will I’m sure bring both tears of sadness for some and tears of elation for others who were happy to see the back of the days of lumpy skinned custard and those that have had to suffer this decaying eyesore for decades. The other place being the site of the car garages in Cremer Street where they have sawn down a copse of trees and have made a small mountain of rubbish that large we could advertise it as a part of our tourist attractions for the coming season. If it takes them as long to build this small village as it did to start work on the site from when they first announced the plans, Sheringham will have an airport and be an Island before we see a satisfactory conclusion. I am however sure this won’t be the case this time round, not unless Tesco opens their own airport first as a new sideline in their ever expanding global business. Well that’s about it folks for this time. I can’t think of anything else I can pen that’s worth writing about or legally sound for that matter, so with that I’ll sign myself out now and bid you all the best until next time. Take care now. Vic.
