New Gallery Display For Sheringham Museum

Following the highly successful exhibition last year on the work of John Craske, we have something completely different and new this coming season. A collection of superb paintings of lifeboat rescues by local artist Mick Bensley.  Mick was born in Sheringham and was a pupil at both the town’s Primary and Secondary Modern Schools. He went on to study at the Norwich School of Art before spending 15 years in London working for advertising agencies handling major national and international accounts.   Mick has an international reputation both as a maritime and landscape painter, and for the former is renowned for the meticulous research he carries out and the ability to bring alive the heroic and dramatic rescues made by local lifeboats.  His book depicting rescues by the Sheringham lifeboats will be on sale together with a wonderful collection of paintings of lifeboat rescues, some of which will also be on sale, making this an exhibition not to be missed.

In Shakespeare's time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes. When you pulled on the ropes the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on. Hence the phrase "goodnight, sleep tight".
