SHERINGHAM
CARNIVAL - NORFOLK'S PREMIER CARNIVAL Sheringham Evening W.I. Our April meeting was the occasion of our 28th Birthday and we were joined
by members from five neighbouring Institutes to help us celebrate. Entertainment was
provided by two Kens, Richard and John, together making up the Informality Barbershop
Quartet. Songs old and not so old (including a couple of Beatles numbers transposed into
Barbershop style) were greatly enjoyed with Ken's humorous patter linking the items in
their programme. Refreshments, contributed by all members, followed, with the traditional
cake, made and iced by Coral Batchelor. During the evening Nurse Felicity Tomlinson
from the Sheringham Medical Centre was presented with a cheque on behalf of members.
Fundraising by the Institute had enabled us to help with the appeal for donations to
purchase a new ECG machine for the surgery. At our may meeting, the resolutions to
be debated at the National AGM in June will be discussed, and our delegate instructed how
we wish her to vote at the Royal Albert Hall on our behalf. This year the topics are
Farmgate Milk Prices - raising the public awareness of the difference between the retail
prices of milk and the price paid to the farmer - and Care of the Environment. This second
resolution calls for further action to reduce waste in the production, packaging and
transportation of public and consumer goods and also in domestic and community areas. The
meeting will be on Thursday 12th May at St Andrews Hall at 7.15pm. New members and
visitors are welcome. Sing to the Lord with Geraldine Latty An opportunity will arise next month for people to take part in a series of music workshops at Sheringham Baptist Church on the afternoon of Saturday 21st May 2005. The workshops will be led by worship leader and singer/songwriter Geraldine Latty from Bristol, and will include Vocal Training, Guitar, Percussion, Keyboards, and Singing. They are open to everyone, regardless of musical ability. The day will conclude with a time of Family Praise from 7pm, and Reflective and Devotional Worship at around 8.30pm, both led by Geraldine and her team. Chris Harrison, who is organizing the event, said We are privileged to have the services of Geraldine, who regularly leads the worship at major Christian conferences in the UK and abroad. She has also been seen on Songs of Praise twice and has recently released albums in 2000 and March 2003.
Whether it is running vocal workshops, music group clinics, teaching on worship, introducing new songs, recording in Nashville or leading worship, Geraldine is concerned to keep the focal point on loving the Lord God with the whole of our lives, and praying that, through the power of the Holy Spirit, this will impact the world that Jesus Christ died to save. Tickets for the workshops or the evening praise and worship sessions are available from Mark & Helen Ward on 01263 821616. There is no charge, but there will be an opportunity to make a donation to Tear Fund.
