 THE
RIBBON WALK
This time last year, Derek and Miriam Welch from Sheringham were unhealthy
and overweight, but having lost over 5 stone between them they are now looking forward to
the new challenge of walking 26 miles from Lechlade in Gloucestershire to Blenheim Palace
as part of The Ribbon Walk on 26th June. The walk is in aid of Breast Cancer Care, a
charity that uses people who have had breast cancer to support others with this
devastating disease.

and Derek log onto www.justgiving.com/welch
Miriam said, "This is quite a challenge for us but we are training hard and
determined to do our best for this worthy cause which is so close to our hearts so please
dig deep and support us." If Miriam, who works at Sheringham High School
supporting children with special needs and Derek who is the forecourt supervisor at
Thurlow Nunn manage to complete this walk they plan to attempt the London Marathon next
year.'

SHERINGHAM SWINGERS
Heart Swings - Raising funds for local heart and diabetes charities.
Heart Swings has been formed by ten Sheringham men who have been meeting for the
last three years as members of 'Sheringham Swingers', with golf as their main interest,
they are incapable of swinging in any other way! Among them are the Town Mayor, a retired
police sergeant, an accountant, former shopkeepers and tradesmen. Last year one of its
members, Trevor Pigott, had a quadruple heart by-pass, being diabetic his eyesight has
been seriously affected. As he has recovered well he suggested to the other Swingers that
it would be a good idea to raise money to repay the tremendous treatment and care he
received. After we had started to plan events one group, Tony Owen, died in April
from a heart attack, while he was awaiting a quadruple by-pass operation. Other swingers
have heart trouble, Les Pigott, a triple by-pass 3 years ago, Ernie Cumberidge has heart
problems, and the rest are all heartless! It was unanimously decided to give full support
to Trevor's idea to raise funds in 2005. Tony's sudden death has made us more determined
to succeed. The first event is a 'Sponsored Slim' over 12 weeks, which began on 10th
March, ending with the official launch of 'Heart Swings'. The slimmer members have to lose
a few pounds, while the more corpulent Swingers have to lose at least a stone! If
you would like to sponsor the slimmers, no amount is too small - or too big. Contact:
Ernie on 823704 - Ces on 824517 - Peter on 823008. Trevor also hopes to form a group
of musicians and singers with an emphasis on 60s country and folk music, with some humour
mixed in. Trevor has performed with The Castaways and is aware of the excellent work they
do for charity. He believes that there is potential for a group to perform to raise funds
for heart and diabetes charities. If you would like to join ring Trevor on
