TEN GOLDEN RULES OF HAPPINESS FROM ONE OF OUR READERS
UPHOLD THE RIGHT VALUES

Doing the right thing lifts your self-esteem. It also protects you from the damage others try to inflict on you and it wins genuine friends.

LOVE PEOPLE

You cannot be happy if you live your life oblivious to the needs of others. If you help others, it makes you a happier person. The most powerful source of happiness is to contribute towards someone else's happiness through your own actions and your personal qualities.

HOLD ON TO YOUR DREAMS

To be happy, you must have purpose. The purpose of life is to have a purpose. Unhappiness comes from losing touch with reality. In short, if you are unhappy about something, it means you do not understand the reality of it. You don't get it.

FULFIL YOUR DREAMS

The battleground between dreams and reality can be very bloody and painful. Following a dream requires resolution and courage not only physical bravery, but moral courage to do what you think is right. Don't let your age become an excuse. Look at everything with a view to making it better. Don't spend time griping. Gripers are never happy.

FIND PEACE OF MIND

Why do you think so many "starts" fail? They seem to have everything but they don't have that inner contentment and pride in themselves that lead to true happiness - peace of mind. The major cause of lack of peace of mind is an excess of selfishness. Generous people are happy people.

USE MONEY WISELY

In the past 30 years, we have all become wealthier as a society, but people are less happy than ever before. Why? We think that money and material possessions equate to happiness. Big mistake. The only purpose of money is to give you freedom to carry out your goals. Money is a facilitator and a liberator, that's all.
STAY HEALTHY

There is ample evidence that generosity helps your health and that cynicism, hostility and negativity leads to all sorts of diseases. Your mental health - your attitude - plays a big role in your fysical health. Even those who do get sick are more able to bear their illness when their attitude is good.

FIND THE BALANCE BETWEEN WORK & LEISURE

Be willing to work hard - HARD WORK IS A MUST - but within strict limits. The old saying that work seems to expand to fill the time allocated is very true. The most balanced people are those who can accomplish in five days what others do in seven days. You should set your hours before you set your targets. If not, you'll spend all your hours and all your days trying to reach your targets. And then you will lose your balance. Start with hours and then you will be more likely to reach your targets. It is not smart to work 12 hours a day when you could get better results in 8 hours.

HAVE A GOOD LAUGH

Too many people are far too serious. Laughter is almost out of fashion and yet it is the essence of happiness. If you can't find something funny in almost every situation, you are not going to be a very happy person. You should laugh at yourself. After all there is a great deal of Mister Bean in all of us. You are very funny - even if you are so serious, that's funny. The funniest people in life are those who take themselves too seriously.

USE AND DEVELOP YOUR TALENTS TO THE FULL

One of the reasons so many people are so unhappy is because their conscience is telling them they are not doing what they are capable of doing. Internally they are ashamed of themselves. This is why so many men become grumpie, as they get older. They feel they have lost their chance and they tend to lash out at others. Don't let age be an excuse to not do your best. When you do your best, you feel your best.

Habits are like cork or lead
They tend to keep you up
or
To hold you down
