Sheringham High School
and Sixth Form Awards Evening
17th December

I attended the above Awards Evening and it confirmed to us all in the audience just what we have been saying in past issues. We should be proud of the Youth in Sheringham, the majority of them are hard working individuals, with dedication to their community, pleasant manners and extremely talented. Awards are not only given to those who achieve the best marks, but to those who have genuinely worked hard and done their best in the given subjects, to those young adults who have quietly helped their peers, loudly fought for what they believe to be right and been consistent throughout their time in education.
Sheringham Community Paper

There are far too many names for us to list at this time, but I would like to say that for me the person who epitomises this is the young lady who was awarded The Rotary Award for Service to the Community, Chantell Smith. When asked prior to receiving the award why she thought that she had been chosen, her words were 'I have no idea'.

Although we only spoke very briefly after the ceremony,
Chantell, is a lovely young lady who has quite obviously overcome obstacles in her life with poise and maturity. Her health could have been a barrier to her success, but she has not allowed that to happen and indeed has undertaken fundraising work for the charity REACH, The Association for Children with Hand or Arm Deficiency.

Chantell is a very talented artist and won the competition to design the new sign for West Runton, which is now in place for all to see. She was a member of the School Council, helped out at OAP parties at school and Parent's Evenings. She has served me several times in the shop in town where she works, always with a smile. The family members with her were obviously very proud of her and quite rightly so.
The School Orchestra provided some lovely music on the evening, which was enjoyed by all.

Congratulations to all those who received awards and good luck in your future.

Dog Show

If there are 196 legs and 126 eyes at the dog show, how many people and how many dogs are present? (All the people and all the dogs at the show have the normal number of eyes and legs.)

Reader's Letter

Dear Editor

I have just read the third issue of your paper and I am wondering why you feel that Sheringham actually needs what would appear to be a cloned version of our well-established paper, the Sheringham Independent. I wonder how many of the letters and articles from so-called 'contributors' (name and address supplied) are actually genuine and how many are produced by your staff? It would be nice to see some actual names on the letters to prove that you have a readership that are not merely invented to drum up some trade.

How are both papers going to survive in the long term? It would seem unlikely that local businesses will continue to find the advertising budget to feature in both papers and, surely, advertising revenue is required to keep these papers going? What is your motivation and business strategy and will you respond to this letter in your paper?

I think that you will definitely go up in everyone's estimation, certainly in mine, if you are prepared to publish this letter and your response so that the town can form a considered opinion of what is happening here.

I look forward to seeing your reply in print.
