CLEAN ‘BREAK’ FOR MOTORCYCLING ENTHUSIASTS

A group of vintage motorcyclist enthusiasts, Norfolk Norton Motorcycle Club, brought little ‘essentials’ in the form of toiletries to BREAKs Rainbow holiday centre in Sheringham on Thursday 12 May. Guests with special needs, who will be staying at the centre over the coming months, will be able to enjoy these useful gifts, which will also in turn save the charity money! This is the 3rd annual event by the club supporting local charities, in which they take specific donated items to one of the charity’s centres. Last year they even organised a ‘banana run’ taking fruit to another local charity in Sheringham on their vintage British motorcycles, which finished production in the 1980s. Secretary and event organiser, Fred Beckett, said, “We are just a group of self-confessed grey bearded old guys who ride bikes we had as kids! I find that if you ask for things for a good cause, rather than funds, people have great fun collecting them – it’s a good opportunity for people to hunt for a bargain and comparatively we get much more than if we just asked for money. And of course if we buy things the good cause buys anyway then we are saving them expenditure. Those people who couldn’t make it have given donations – either by giving me money to go out and get some toiletries, or like one lady who couldn’t come – she has gone round collecting sample travel size toiletries and has given me a carrier bag full to take to the centre.” Fred concludes, “We enjoy doing these runs, but also anything we can do to put us in a good light is good – people are still intimidated by a group of us in leather jackets, but we’ve left our Mods and Rockers years behind us!”

Break bikers, Sheringham, Norfolk

Janice Fenn of the Rainbow holiday centre said, “We were absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of toiletries we received from all the bikers – it will save us a small fortune over the coming months! And our guests will be delighted to enjoy all the different smellies we received – they’ll be spoilt for choice. What a wonderful idea and thank you to everyone who contributed and came along – it will make such a difference to us.”
