CALLING ALL ARTISTS FOR EXCELLENT MARKETING OPPORTUNITY IN AID OF BREAK

Are you an up and coming budding artist seeking that lucky ‘break’? Following on from the success of last years ‘Bayswater Road’ style Open-Air Art Market at Gresham’s Art and Antique fair, BREAK will once again be giving local artists an ideal opportunity to display and sell their work. One of the leading art and antique fairs in the country attracting over 4,000 people last year alone, the event is due to be held at Gresham’s School, Holt on Sunday 3 July, 10am-4pm.

Artists wanted for BREAK

Artists pitches are now available for sale, book early to avoid disappointment. ‘Pitches’ or spaces on the railings are covered in hessian, each sized 6’ x 8’ (you can also purchase larger pitches if required). Each pitch costs only £25 and all proceeds from the sale of this display space will go to BREAK. There is no commission on the sale of artwork, which can be as much as up to 80% in some London galleries, so this really is an opportunity not to be missed for artists to get noticed. You could also be an arts and crafts, or jewellery maker as this is an opportunity for anyone who has arts to display and sell. Space is limited and as last year was a sell out we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment. With regard to pictures, it is advised that artwork is mounted, but framing is not necessary. Please also note that if you require tables these will need to be brought with you on the day. There are only 50 spaces available so please call Liz Holman now on 01263 820710 for more information and to book your space at this once a year opportunity.

THANK YOU

I would like to thank everyone that visited, phoned, thought, prayed and supported in any way my family and myself during my recent illness and stay in hospital. I am now well on the road to recovery but it will be a few months yet before I will be back to my usual self. To list you all would require a whole magazine, so again many thanks to you all. I would also like to thank my beloved wife Maureen and our two boys Luke and Scott for the love and support they have given to me, without which I don't think I could have recovered so quickly. Without the excellent Doctors and Nurses at Addenbrooks and the Norfolk and Norwich I wouldn't be sitting here writing this, I may not have been the easiest patient but many thanks from me and my family.

IAIN DALE IN WESTMINSTER

Political pundit Iain Dale has bounced back from his election defeat in North Norfolk – and landed a top job in Westminster. He is the new chief of staff for shadow Home Secretary David Davis, who is also tipped as front runner in a future leadership race. Mr Dale will be responsible for the running of his office, and dealing with the media – but was staying tight-lipped on what his role would be in any campaign to promote Mr Davis as Michael Howard's successor. It harks back to an earlier stint in Westminster 20 years ago when he was personal assistant to a Norfolk MP – back in 1985 when Patrick Thompson represented Norwich North. The job, which saw him head-hunted by long-time political friend Mr Davis, combines his interest in politics with his contacts in the media world – and may rule out his taking another tilt at the North Norfolk seat. After his recent general election blow, which saw the Tories slump to a 10,000 vote defeat despite a slick campaign by Mr Dale and his team, he had been considering his future, when the approach came from long-time friend Mr Davis.

“It keeps me involved in politics at an exciting time for the Conservative Party, and a busy time of Home Office legislation such as identity cards and anti-social behaviour” he said yesterday after confirmation of the appointment, which starts immediately. He takes the seat of former chief of staff Tracey Crouch who left to take a post with Norwich Union. Mr Davis is Mr Dale's “closest friend in politics” dating back to when they worked together when the MP was first elected in 1987. Mr Dale was public relations manager for the British Ports Association, and both sought to overturn the Dock Labour Scheme. He also helped Mr Davis deal with the press when he was replaced as party chairman by Theresa May while on holiday in Florida in 2002. The previous year, Mr Dale would have been running Mr Davis' leadership campaign if he had not decided to withdraw and back eventual winner Iain Duncan Smith - but would not be drawn on his involvement in any forthcoming challenge. He also said he had made no firm decision about any future candidacy, but conceded the seven-days-a-week nature of the new London-based job meant it would be difficult to spend much time in Norfolk, though he hoped to keep his Swanton Abbot house “for the time being.”

The man who lost to Liberal Democrat Norman Lamb also quipped “I look forward to meeting Norman in Westminster. I could not get there one way, but I did by another route.”
