BAND REVIEWS by Tim Jefferson

Hy Tide
I've seen these lads several times, nothing has changed much. They're fun. It was a Sunday night, cold, damp and quiet. Not the sort of start I'd like. Being in a cover number band in these conditions is certainly serving your time at the coalface. I watched as the pub filled and it kept on filling. Then the dancing started and then that kept going. How this band does it, I'm not quite sure but they pulled it out of the bag, which is all that matters. I'd still like to see more taken advantage of the two guitars, twin harmony soloing for example but when a band can create an oasis in a wilderness like this, who am I to comment. Well done.

Travis Graham
I was invited to stay over at a friend of mine's in Melton Constable. We duly went to the Social Club. There was live music on that night in the form of a solo act called Travis Graham. He and his friend arrived with a lot of gear; lighting trees, PA, etc. The atmosphere in the place was lively and it was great to see two couples in their seventies jumping at the chance to jive. It wasn't long before younger couples followed suit and the place heaved. The smiles on their faces of those who'd led the way, were tinged with sadness as they celebrated a remote community's survival and the passing of the baton of youth to others in the relay race of time.  In a quiet corner sat a young man, just back from the Gulf and alone in his own war between our reality and that which he left behind. He took no notice as two about to fight were quickly separated. Real fighting looks different. This evening was a celebration of many things. Travis was in fine form and ably supported by his friend who handled the co-ordinated lighting. The strobe light with the playing of bongos was very impressive and the choice of numbers was spot on. I had a wonderful night and felt privy to a family party. Everyone came to say hello to me and I knew no-one. What a night. For a really good show contact Travis Graham on trvsgrhm@aol.com

Humpty Dumpty is hanging out with four of his egg pals and they're all sitting on a wall, in the dark. I quite fancy an egg for my breakfast. Humpty Dumpty makes the following statement:

I am furthest to the right, or one left of that. Jack Spratt is furthest to the left or one left of the furthest to the right. Georgie Porgie is 2 left of Little Boy Blue. Little Jack Horner is furthest to the left or one right of that. Little Boy Blue is not 2 right of Jack Spratt. I am not 1 left of Little Boy Blue. He then adds:

I am telling the whole truth or else what I say is a complete load of lies. Now if you can tell me where 1 of my mates sits you may have him.
I enjoyed my egg! Who did I eat?

NORTH NORFOLK CAMERA CLUB

Three months now to get outside with the camera gear, and stock up with stunning images for next years club competitions.  Even if you don't have your printed programme for next season yet, and work on publication is proceeding for you to get a copy in good time, the competition requirements will be unchanged. First the 'Portfolio' when you will need three prints and/or slides on a common theme. Next is the 'All Rounder' which is judged on the best four from five categories. Finally the prestigious 'Annual' for the best print and slide of the year.  It may be worth mentioning, to newcomers, that commercial services are available to produce 35mm slides from CD, DVD, or Zip discs. I can recommend 'Micro Quiz' at £2 per glass slide. Let me know if you would like details.  One interesting event during May was the 'Studio Evening' provided by member John Humberstone This turned out to be largely auto-biographical, based on Johns' successful career producing floral images for greetings cards. One of the features of retirement is that one mixes with a group of people, which one can only take at today's face value. It sometimes comes as a surprise, to learn of a persons 'former' career. I for one, will not receive a picture of roses on a card in future, without wondering about the origin.  Two outside meets will take place, to keep in touch during our 'break'. On Wednesday June 22nd, equipped with cameras we will get together at Blakeney Harbour Car Park at 6.15 p.m. Not perhaps the most photogenic starting point, but most people probably say that about their home 'patch'. I am prompted to take a closer look at things that I see everyday, and to try and provide a list of 'look out for' items for you on the night.  On Wednesday July 20th, we will be at Pensthorpe Park, informally at any time between 10 a.m. and 5 pm.; with lunch together in the Restaurant at 1 p..m Mention on arrival at reception your membership of N.N.C.C/, to qualify for reduced admission, on that date only.
