Sing to the Lord with Geraldine Latty

Spontaneity and Innovation were the keynotes of the musical events led by Geraldine Latty at Sheringham Baptist Church last weekend. Her very evident musical creativity was clearly matched by the sincerity of her love for the Lord. She brought with her a team of accomplished musicians whose musical skills complemented her own, and resulted in an enjoyable and inspiring weekend for those who attended.    Geraldine is based in Bristol, and regularly leads the worship at major Christian conferences in the UK and abroad, as well as running vocal workshops, music group 'clinics', teaching on worship, songwriting, and leading worship. She has also been seen on Songs of Praise twice and has recently released three albums.
Guidance and encouragement were offered to the Baptist church's resident music groups on Saturday morning, including advice on improving musical "texture" and introducing more improvisation, with Geraldine's warm and engaging personality motivating band members. The afternoon workshops, which were open to the public, covered the areas of vocal care and training (led by Geraldine herself), and guitar, percussion, and keyboard skills, led by members of her team, all professional musicians in their own right.

But it was the evening praise and worship sessions which brought these elements together and produced enthusiastic singing from the congregation as we were inspired by Geraldine's creative gospel-style leading to join in with the wide variety of songs. The first half culminated with the rousing "Wonderful, So Wonderful" as the audience responded to her passionate leading and the powerful accompaniment from the rest of her team.
Geraldine and her keyboard player, also led the music in the Sunday morning service, once more encouraging the responsive congregation with a variety of songs and hymns, from the traditional "How Great Thou Art" to the brand new and funky "I've got a Very Big God-O".
A creative and inspiring weekend, which has fired the musical and spiritual ambition of everyone who was involved.
