A FASCINATING PHOTO ARCHIVE Face to Face is the remarkable story of photographers Olive Edis and Cyril
Nunn, recording their photographs almost a century of life in and around Sheringham.
Olive Edis, was one of this country's most important pioneer women photographers,
it was no small compliment to be commissioned to record the work of the Women's Services
at the end of the First World War - the only woman photographer so chosen. Chance and
family holidays had led Olive to Sheringham, at that time transforming itself from fishing
village to fashionable seaside resort. Recognising that much of the old world was being
lost, Olive began to photograph many of the fishermen whose way of life had not changed
for generations but soon was to be swept away. It was in the nearby village of Upper
Sheringham, in 1925, which Cyril Nunn grew up. Taken under the wing of his mentor, Cyril
became a professional photographer and continued to record local people and scenes from
the Edis studio. To order your copy, telephone: 01884 243242 or email: sales@halsgrove.com OFFSHORE WIND FARM As many of you will know there is a proposal to build an offshore wind
farm in the Greater Wash approximately 11 miles out, consisting of 60 - 90 wind turbines.
These turbines will be visible from Sheringham and therefore are likely to be of
considerable interest to the people of the town. However, the visibility of the farm will
depend greatly on the weather. The purpose is to generate renewable electricity.
There has been a great deal of publicity over the past few weeks about the problem
of future electricity supply for our country and it is a subject, which is very important
for us all to think about as all projects take time to implement. Consider the
following, how would you get your money from the bank, buy goods from shops totally
reliant on their computerised tills/stock controls/weighing machines/card machines or get
fuel for your vehicles? For many that do not have gas in the home, how do you cook your
meals, light your homes or heat your homes? Fancy time without your computer, TV or video
games? Massive "Feng Shui" house
