For the last three years Sheringham Primary School has
taken part in the UK Chess Challenge. Over 2,000 schools and over 70,000 children enter
annually all across the UK. Eight children from Sheringham Primary qualified for and
played in the Norfolk Mega Finals this year in April:
Ross Murray age 11, Callum McLaren age 11, Jodi Norris age 10, Ryan Nolan age 9, Melanie
Allen age 8, Edward Knight age 8, Sophie Bialecki age 8 and Alex Long age 7. All
eight of them tried hard and produced some very good results to be proud of. Ryan became
the under 9 boys champion, Melanie became the under 9 girls champion, Edward
won the under 8 boys championship and not to be out done Sophie won the 8
girls championship. Seven of the eight children won enough games to qualify to play
in the northern half of the national Giga Finals on July 16th in Manchester.
This was a tremendous result for the school and the individual children involved. |
