Sheringham Community PaperThe sun has got his hat on shout hip hip hooray; the sun has got his hat on and is coming out tomorrow!  And tomorrow never comes.  At least we've seen a week of it before the tornadoes washed out most of the country.   Even Cromer pier patrons needed to unfurl an umbrella or two the other week - inside the theatre. What fun that show must have been singing in the rain at Camelot!   But all this talk of dreary weather pales into insignificance when compared to the dreary tempestuous temperaments of the inmates in the "Big Brother house" of which our very own Camp wimpy crimper Craig is one. As I said in the last but one issue, Sheringham is the place to be seen, now it must be seen as the place to come from. Although as usual Cromer have already dubbed the phrase Cromer Craig, Oh well they're welcome to him. If this boy's attitude and intelligence is suppose to enlighten the masses as to what we humble Norfolk Sheringham folk are like, then he's not doing us that many favours. I for one do not like being portrayed en-mass as dull as the weather over the Wimbledon fortnight. Happy viewing! Now then, I see that at last the Doctors surgery is now open for business, staff training, chaotic appointment system, little decorum, manners and privacy. And now resembles a new age reform cathedral or barn as I overheard someone say the other day. Oh well I suppose the planners thought they knew what they were doing? Yes it's still nigh on impossible to get an appointment with YOUR doctor as by 8.40 am all the days appointments are gone! Even a shocked prime minister who said he'd look into this kind of disgrace has, it seems fell on deaf unwilling or unable managers and staff who still refuse to give the people of Sheringham a fair and workable system. Me thinks it's time to get back to basics, get rid of the bloody computers, and all the supposedly UNTRAINED (still having training days to train them) minions that work them. Kill the paper filling post grad practice management and let the doctors get on and do the job they're paid to do. And that is to look after the welfare of their patients, and not their time sheets and budgets. Oh and BRING BACK DEBBIE! And talking of bringing things back, please someone out there in the hierarchy of yellow-line painters. Can we have them back in Wyndham Street! Of course a little common sense afforded by the ignorant drivers who have in recent weeks parked down on the left hand side going down the road have all added to this short stretch of road being turned into a death trap waiting to be sprung. But who was to blame for the lines disappearing in the first place? And why weren't they replaced after the road works were finished. And come to that, on seeing that the parking was incredibly dangerous and down right stupid, why had the police not spared a few of their numerous cones for the duration? After all they can afford a small - assembled army on a Friday night, they seem to turn up in droves at any kind of road traffic accident HOW EVER MINOR! Yet when something as simple as this is needed - nothing! I guess they're all gearing themselves up for the Big July Tesco event! In which we hear once and for all if the council passes the new plans for the Cromer Road store wars. Part 6, revenge of the SITH, Sheringham and Interlopers Theatre of Hate. (Against Tesco stores and anything associated with them.) Oh great another summer of blah blah blah letters in the papers all from people who'd probably use the place when it got opened any way. Still, look on the bright side when all the protesters turn out in their tens, just think of all the publicity the town's shops are going to get on the telly again. All those T.V crews and outsider, holiday home owning protestors are going to have to eat somewhere, and where better than the newly opened Robin Hood where the dinner is as good and satisfying as a day on a sun bed in the garden without the kids! And if they've stopped serving there's always our friends at the PLAZA CAFÉ .who are always willing to oblige however hot it gets in the kitchen. Talking of hot, wow is the term of phrase that springs to mind when describing the new bookies in town. And let's face it folks it doesn't look half bad. I know some of you didn't like the idea of that establishment coming to town, but it's not exactly another new business is it, it's just relocated from Melbourne Road that's all. To my mind they've done us a favour. It could have been sold to Budgens of all things can you image that? Double the space at even more outrageously overpriced items all under the same roof. Now these guys have done Sheringham a service, for one, Blue badge holders will have one less excuse to park on the corner in Melbourne Road in front of "that white van" all day. No I say bring it on and good luck to them we should all have a go after all why should Monica Lewinski (Please excuse the spelling) be only one to get her hands on a Yankee! Well I bet you never saw that coming? Bet? Oh sorry never was much good at humour. Any way time's up again lads and ladettes, I do hope you enjoy the rest of the summer and happy holidays. Take care now .Vic

Readers Letter

I was looking at your web site as I have very fond memories of staying at Sheringham with my Family in the 1960s and early 70s.  I got quite a suprise when I looked at the photograph of the bowling team - there are two of my great uncles in the photograph. Fred Bushell who was one of my maternal grandfather's brothers and Barton (not Bernard) Hunt who was married to one of my grandfather's sisters. I can't remember a great deal about Fred as he died when I was small but Great Uncle Barton was the uncle we used to stay with at Cliff House and I can remember him very well. He later moved to the Anchor Sheltered Housing up by the railway lines. Uncle Barton lived well into his 90s and played bowls up until the 1970s. I recall that there were quite a few other relatives in the Bushell family that lived in and around Sheringham too. There is a chap in both of the cricket pictures that looks very like my mother's cousin Bob Bushell as I remember him - it may or may not be him as I have no photographs to compare it to. He is the chap 4th from left back row in the first(LHS) photo and first on the left front row on the second (RHS) photo.  Hope this info is useful to you. Thanks, Anne Lewis (Mrs)

North Norfolk Luncheon Club

I am delighted to announce that the North Norfolk Luncheon Club has re-commenced inviting business members from all industries in North Norfolk. We will meet the last Thursday of every month at the Burlington Hotel The Esplanade Sheringham 12pm for a 12.3pm two course meal, at a cost of only £10.00, payable on the day.  The first meeting took place this week and was found to be a great opportunity to meet like minded people, gain business and relax over a pleasant lunch. It was an informal atmosphere, and occasionally a guest speaker would be invited to attend.  I look forward to meeting new members, and hope you will be interested in joining us. The next meeting will take place on Thursday 28th July 2005.  Should you require further information please do not hesitate to contact me at Watsons Residential Sheringham Branch on 01263 823201 or e-mail c.lake@watsons-ea.co.uk
