Sheringham Community Paper Sports News

This is your column for news about any sport you are interested in.

On a hot and sunny Saturday Sheringham A hosted The Creakes in a West Norfolk Division 2 match. Sheringham skipper S. Hudson won the toss and chose to field first with 6 under 16’s in the team. The Creakes, with a bit of luck on the way put on 65 for the first wicket, despite some accurate bowling from Wes Neave and J. Taylor before a direct hit from M. Hudson got the breakthrough. 2 wickets from M. Hudson (2-20) and one for N. Taylor (1-16) reduced The Creakes to 74-4. A 5th wicket partnership of 49 kept the score rolling before C. Balluza ended the partnership. Sheringham ended the innings quickly as Balluza (2-15), J Hall (1-33) took wickets. There were also 2 more run outs, which capped an excellent display in the field. The Creakes were bowled out for 153. In reply Sheringham lost the early wicket of J. Neale and the Sheringham middle order all followed cheaply. Sheringham had K. Howell to thank as some greats shots kept the score rolling. Howell eventually fell for 43 and Sheringham were 93-9. This brought 14 year olds B Flanagan and Balluza (19no) together who batted sensibly and also showed some terrific shots to give Sheringham a glimmer and set panic into The Creakes ranks. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be as Flanagan (11) was run out to end a super partnership of 45 as Sheringham were bowled out 16 runs short on 137. Despite the defeat Sheringham can be pleased knowing the clubs youth system is working well.
