SHERINGHAM EVENING W.I.
At our August meeting we were entertained by the singing group 'Vivace'.
Their programme was a feast for Gilbert and Sullivan lovers, but they also delighted us
with other well-known numbers, including a lively version of ' The Cat Song', altogether,
an enjoyable, light-hearted evening. As our busy summer continues, many members helped
with the Sheringham Carnival in various ways. Members were on duty in the Carnival
Information Caravan, and also collected money at the end-of-Carnival Firework Display. The
Institute also entered its own colourful float in the Procession on Carnival Day with the
theme of 'Bollywood'. A small-dedicated group of members have been raising money, mainly
through the sale of handcrafted greetings cards, and have been able to donate the
magnificent sum of £2400 to the East Anglian Air Ambulance. Our programme of outings and
local walks continues and our recently formed craft group meets regularly. We have a sale
stall booked for Otterndorf Green in August, and we shall be staging an exhibition at the
Anglia ''one'' Station on the weekend of 24th/25th September as part of the Community Rail
Festival. It will show the history of the Institute's involvement with the Station garden
and the work of the Station Garden Team over the last 20 years.

SHERINGHAM HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
At our July meeting, Jim LeGrice described, with slides, a variety of
water features for the garden, ranging from a small garden pond, with fountain, to a
pretty rocky stream or a large ornamental lake.
At the meeting, our Chairman announced the results of the Society's Best Kept Front Garden
Competition, judged initially by Society members, who visited every front garden in
Sheringham, and finally decided, by Stuart and Frances Brittain. The winners were Mr and
Mrs Alan Gibling of 57 Beech Avenue, and the runners-up were Mr and Mrs Tony Ellis of 1
Lusher Close. They will receive their awards at the Presentation Evening of Sheringham in
Bloom in September.
Our next meeting, after the Autumn Show in September, will be on 20th October, when Vida
Armstrong will talk about Autumn Colour. More details later.
