SHERINGHAM & CROMER ROUND TABLE

Members of Sheringham & Cromer Round Table took to the water to compete in Dragon Boat Racing at Whitlingham Broad. Amongst there opponents were teams from North Walsham & Harleston, so there was a guarantee of some friendly rivalry on the day.  Sheringham & Cromer battled through to the semi final but along with the two North Walsham teams were eliminated at this stage and it was left to Harleston to fly Round Table colours in the final where they finished third. Great fun was had by all Tablers and there helpers on the day, but the main aim of the day was to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Trust which maintains a register of Bone Marrow donors for leukaemia sufferers.  Last year alone the charity provided 450 bone marrow transplants and gave all of those people a chance of life.  Sheringham & Cromer and North Walsham Round Table raised over £2200 of the total of £9000 raised by the whole event. North Walsham round Tabler Andy Lodge was honoured on the day for his contribution to the overall event. Sheringham & Cromer chairman Gary Fowkes stated Round Table is all about having fun but when this can be combined with raising money for such a worthy cause it makes it even more special. Details of the Anthony Nolan Trust can be obtained by visiting www.anthonynolan.org.uk Sheringham & Cromer Round Table meets the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of every month (North Walsham 2n& 4th Thursdays) and undertakes a variety of activities which amongst others include sport, visits and speakers. DEAD MAN'S HILL

Yesterday I travelled on the North Norfolk Railway with my wife and a couple of friends. I happened to mention that, from previous visits, I knew that we were passing Dead Man's Hill. Everyone else immediately asked how the hill got its name - I couldn't give them an answer! Having searched the internet, without success, I am hoping that you might be able to provide the answer!
